Mecha Musume - Me 109E-3 Luffwaffe Mascheneung Fighter ToranoanaMecha Musume - Me 109E-3 Luffwaffe Mascheneung Fighter ToranoanaReview

MaakieMaakie6 anno/i fa
! This is a review of a character not wearing pants and only a long jacket, so a few panty shots were inevitable !

Small note Before I start this review I will say beforehand that this review is about a figure that has a design based of warplanes used by WWII Nazi Germany. Which means that logo's and weapons from that era are to be seen. Also there are references to Adolf Hitler in the book that comes with this figure. The design of this figure is based on historical events and is in no way promoting the nazi-movement.

Welcome to my review! Today I will be talking about a figure of Me 109E-3 Luffwaffe Mascheneung Fighter ENCYCLOPEDIA #4304 (to keep it easy, I'll just call her Me during the review) from the Mecha Musume ENCYCLOPEDIA #477 series! This figure ITEM #4714 is made by Toranoana ENCYCLOPEDIA #7661 .

I will start off with telling some more about her background.

Background

Mecha Musume is a variant of Moe Anthropomorphism (also known as Moe Gijinka). This means a character is dressed up (cosplayed) or combined with an inanimate object, an animal or a certain occupation for example. The most well known Moe Anthropomorphism is Kemonomimi, the combination of characters with animal ears and tails. Mecha Musume is the combination of characters combined with military hardware, the most well known versions are combinations with planes, tanks, guns and ships.

The plane I found that came most close to Me when it comes to name and design is the Messerschmitt Bf 109E-3, also known as Me 109:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-fS5pRlGVD5w/Ukrp1Lvw86I/AAAAAAAAEiY/KQ5P02d1eXU/s700/bf109e3tb_8.jpg

This plane was designed in the early 1930's by Germany and was used during World War II by Germany, Hungary, Italy and Romania.

The reason why and how I got her

After buying ITEM #4716 and ITEM #4715 and seeing their quality and the good prices they go for, I decided that I wanted to try and complete the set. Since ITEM #9874 is almost impossible to find, so the next addition of the Toranoana set turned out to be ITEM #4714 , which I found for a good price on AmiAmi pre-owned. First she showed up as a C/B, which made me doubt a lot, since there was a possibility she could have missing parts (I mailed AmiAmi asking about her which missing parts, but they couldn't answer my question unfortunately). After the C/B sold out, she turned up a few days later again, but now in a B/B condition, without doubt, I ordered her immideatly!

Original art

The figure of Me was designed after an original illustration of Humikane Shimada (also known as Fumikane Shimada):

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-BwWBy4mW0_8/UkroYtVQh6I/AAAAAAAAEh8/hp_rcIMc58E/s640/Lunarjasmin1263346410.jpg

Humikane Shimada is seen by many as the pioneer in Mecha Musume designs. Not because he was the first one, but because he made Mecha Musume overall more known and more accepted by the general public. He is most known as the character designer for Strike Witches, but has worked for many other anime and manga series, such as Girls und Panzer, Busou Shinki and Sky Girls. He also publishes his own artbooks and doujinshi.

They took the original art as a reference while making this figure. The pose is almost identical and the only big difference can be seen in the style of her face (which looks way more mature on the figure than in the art in my opinion).

The Box

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-TiTolfO7KcY/Ukrf1WMPNiI/AAAAAAAAEaQ/eFN4eso05Ws/s640/IMG_8570.JPG

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-fGD-kNITgOA/Ukrf1W1cZmI/AAAAAAAAEaU/-1EPNsooHG0/s640/IMG_8571.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-F8jVTGwW6GQ/Ukrf0xWp7CI/AAAAAAAAEaM/TeXZf4D5GWk/s640/IMG_8572.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-QpKUIPfhqmg/Ukrf34DxjvI/AAAAAAAAEac/uCo6_r5ReF0/s640/IMG_8573.JPG

The box shows her original art, overall pictures of the figure, zoomed in details of the figure and a few cutouts from the art that is in the artbook that comes with her.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-kAMWONcP4ko/Ukrf696BPKI/AAAAAAAAEaw/qI7SxbpXkuY/s800/IMG_8574.JPG

Just as with the other Mecha Musume figures from the Toranoana-set, the front of the box can be opened. We see on the left the logo from the "Luftwaffe" (more on that later on), while on the right you can get a good view at the figure herself!

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-c3DBn1sRbIc/Ukrf56zfV7I/AAAAAAAAEao/ePY2SLEZAtI/s800/IMG_8575.JPG

On top of the box you can see all the statistics of the plane, such as the weight, length and the maximum speed in German. I understand a little bit German myself and I can say that these are a bit weird translations of existing words or existing words with strange grammar. It reminds me of MiG-60 ITEM #4716 , which also had low quality Russian translations on the box. Still, if you understand the language a bit or try to translate it with a dictionary, you can find out what most of it means.

Extra - Artbook

As with the other Toranoana Mecha Musume figures, Me also comes with an (doujinshi) artbook. And (unfortunately) the same as with the others, the book also doesn't have an own seperate space in the box, which means it's "lying" behind the figure with a chance of damaging (mine has a crease in the front, luckily no heavy damage, but still visible). I can't read Japanese, so I unfortunately can't translate any of the information on the pages.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-K099D3Yd_8o/Ukrf88MCTrI/AAAAAAAAEa8/DxBA3zJZoXI/s800/IMG_8576.JPG

On the front we see the original art the figure was based on, a beautiful picture of the sky and the same plane-information as the top of the box.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-HuHLzja-zJU/UkrgAwxb2zI/AAAAAAAAEbY/cedqAPxL9IM/s800/IMG_8578.JPG

More information about the plane, the time the plane was used and a shot of Me in action!

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Aznd0v3529M/UkrgBX29lMI/AAAAAAAAEjM/oa37ITi_kpo/s800/IMG_8580.JPG

The next two pages talk about the Second World War and shows Me drawn by artist Takatsu Keita. A very nice, bit of stylised style in my opinion.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-09LsJ8YCfqw/UkrgBSwmSfI/AAAAAAAAEjU/E8p1jM4gtAw/s1440/IMG_8581.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-KsDVlbEX3kI/UkrgE4D5x7I/AAAAAAAAEjk/9tanVSCT-O8/s800/IMG_8582.JPG

The next two pages show some information about Me and an amazing drawing by Humikane Shimada. I can stare at it for hours, it has so much amazing details!

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-YAH5whJ4XBM/UkrgETmBS3I/AAAAAAAAEjs/rFqs4vBzzKo/s1440/IMG_8583.JPG

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-7NLuGZQzT6M/UkrgJQsaH9I/AAAAAAAAEj0/q_vK-w2mH50/s800/IMG_8584.JPG

These pages are all about the gun Me uses and has another small piece of artwork from Takatsu Keita.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-74ayplKsDRE/UkrgHPIfMMI/AAAAAAAAEj8/Jt4hsCHLeJk/s1440/IMG_8585.JPG

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-UbOc8kJ-CC0/UkrgJk-09bI/AAAAAAAAEkE/ktdTIAnyDNA/s800/IMG_8586.JPG

Followed up by two pages about the Battle of Britain and some amazing artwork by Kyuupora.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-JCyX69eFDYQ/UkrgI9dcxHI/AAAAAAAAEcE/kte4MGnJDuw/s1440/IMG_8587.JPG

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-1X4IaBdDz48/UkrgOehmk3I/AAAAAAAAEkM/PRJMVLRM-zI/s800/IMG_8588.JPG

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-vt95m9f6GMc/UkrgOY5yMvI/AAAAAAAAEkU/x4KcprA00r8/s800/IMG_8589.JPG

The information about the Battle of Britain continues. Here we see another small artwork from Takatsu Keita, what I like here is that we see multiple girls as a personification of the same plane as Me. The artwork on the right is made by Jiji. I think it's very cute, but for some reason it doesn't really appeal to me...

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-r3IY1LhzD48/UkrgMaKluwI/AAAAAAAAEkc/BdWlp-6E5FY/s1440/IMG_8590.JPG

The last pages show a picture of a very nice sunset and (what I think are) copyright/disclaimers.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-E9H5IpE2tjI/UkrgPt0eLRI/AAAAAAAAEkk/uu8CvB3C9Ls/s800/IMG_8591.JPG

The backside of the book shows the logo of the Luftwaffe from Nazi Germany.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Yxp-CP2wNak/Ukrq9oTD2VI/AAAAAAAAEi0/5OneEXCRNPI/s560/Luftwaffe_eagle_svg.png

Compared to the real logo the Luftwaffe used, the logo used on this book is reversed and has some slight differences (such as the beak).

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-BYVGpbAsn0c/UkrgQalR_LI/AAAAAAAAEdA/qaokt-tUye4/s640/IMG_8592.JPG

The text under the logo translates roughly to: "On February 26, 1935 Adolf Hitler orders Hermann Goering to restart the Air Force, despite the prohibition to build the Air Force again." Which is a direct reference to the strengthening of the Air Forces from Nazi Germany before WWII started.

Compared to the book MiG-60 and Italia-san came with, this one was quite different. The others only contained art by Humikane Shimada, but this book also had a lot of guest-artists drawing Humikane's characters in their own style or their own (plane) designs. I am a huge Humikane-fan, so when I got this figure I hoped for a book full of Humikane-art, but seeing more of a fanbook/honour-to-humikane's-art-book is also nice. It's just a great book overall.

First Look

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-1vOeq2WqUeo/UkrgRWDB1YI/AAAAAAAAEdM/z9m4Hv5h3bw/s640/IMG_8593.JPG

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-P9A-ahDL9Lw/UkrgUBsiC6I/AAAAAAAAEdY/pi5O8tS1cLU/s640/IMG_8596.JPG

There are enough blisters around to keep her in place, since she is glued onto her base, it doesn't have a special place in the box. Just as the other Toroanana Mecha Musume figures there is wire to keep her in place. Her previous owner removed all the wire except for one...but it's still good enough to keep Me in place!

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-XVOWwc_6avM/UkrgVBEyrFI/AAAAAAAAEdk/kB7X93u5mXc/s800/IMG_8597.JPG

I had quite a hard time getting Me out of her box, especially because of the part you see in this picture. I had to push her down in the blisters underneath her, otherwise I couldn't remove her head from the blisters! But hey, it's safety for the figure, so no complaints here!

The Figure

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-LKRqxRXhMOo/UkrgVxetdTI/AAAAAAAAEds/00V8hu-qI5E/s640/IMG_8598.JPG

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-xI4wh6k3qag/UkrgWHurxXI/AAAAAAAAEdw/eOxIWYjWqoQ/s640/IMG_8599.JPG

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-TRO5IjA-c3o/UkrgWxTetgI/AAAAAAAAEd4/XYm0uLLOpeU/s640/IMG_8600.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-TvHH1kc-15c/UkrgYVkrdAI/AAAAAAAAEd8/TK4S-oYCA70/s640/IMG_8601.JPG

My first impression of this figure is very good! From afar the paint looks very clean and I like the design of her planelegs! Behind her you see an insert from the box, which shows the battleroute the plane flew.

Looking at all the details!

And now it's time to zoom in on her and look at all the details! Starting from the top...

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-v5ESUe4-AWU/UkrgbaLr-UI/AAAAAAAAEeQ/dlrDKLROI9Q/s800/IMG_8602.JPG

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-WwEt4Ad4bis/UkrgagFXgII/AAAAAAAAEeM/QQkYXxjJ9Xc/s800/IMG_8603.JPG

Me has an amazingly detailed face! I was not expecting this good of a quality! Her eyes look like decals, but in some way they also look handpainted to me, probably because of the "matte" effect it has. Her underlip has a bit of lipgloss/lipstick, it gives the mouth more depth. Overall, the face has an amazing quality looking at the age of the figure and the manufacturer.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-fX2KtcXwfYo/Ukrgbq125WI/AAAAAAAAEeY/-A5L-yqmhI0/s800/IMG_8604.JPG

The top of her head has one big seamline, luckily it's not very noticeable when you look from a distance, but in close-up...it's quite obvious it's there.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-erKzpHqEmZM/UkrgdVgowWI/AAAAAAAAEec/mt-JpkAnBTA/s800/IMG_8605.JPG

Luckily the "shields" on her head hide a lot of the earlier mentioned seamline. The shields have a bit of a rough painting (and I noticed some small scuffs, but that could be because of the B-status the figure had on AmiAmi). The hair itself was very nicely painted (although only one shade of brown).

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-S7TWN2Sy360/Ukrghv--5WI/AAAAAAAAEe0/P5V1HX7MpKY/s800/IMG_8606.JPG

Me wears a small earpiece. The detailing is quite good, but the depth feels a bit off to me. It looks like they pasted the top off her ear onto the earpiece instead of the earpiece going around her ear!

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-UKdNs0Cty4w/UkrgfOfcuwI/AAAAAAAAEeo/z_naLcmvqUM/s800/IMG_8607.JPG

There are some small details of the streaks of hair going into the twintails. Around her neck is unfortunately a small defect, paint from the ribbon has leaked into her hair. Luckily it's on the back-side of this figure and not very noticeable. (I also think this is a mistake specific to my copy of Me.)

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-IiKxE7EMrfg/Ukrggcx5KXI/AAAAAAAAEew/HNlemnEYxlA/s800/IMG_8608.JPG

The ribbon around her neck is simple black. It's a bit of a letdown that they didn't decide to make holes at the top part of the ribbon, but it's something small that can easily be accepted. Me's unfiform is one shade of green, but it has quite some fine detailing, such as her buttons and pockets. Also there are small wrinkles to be seen, especially around her waist and arm.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-iGX063C4LIM/UkrgjrDFi_I/AAAAAAAAEfA/4khTqtH3T4c/s800/IMG_8609.JPG

The bottom of the jacket ends in these "points", to me that way the uniform feels more feminine and a bit dress-like.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-MikudFeZc0A/UkrgkDp3w3I/AAAAAAAAEfE/SvpLEzSZK4I/s800/IMG_8611.JPG

The backside of this outfit doesn't have these points, but the jacket is seperated in two parts and is pushed a bit to the side because of Me's tail. I really love the details of the wrinkles in the pushed away parts on the backside.

Her tail pushing away the jacket gives us a good view on her panties. They are small, white panties. The detailing on them is average and there are small painting mistakes near her skin.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-XxFpVhI04iY/Ukrgl_SjeQI/AAAAAAAAEfY/xppmxbdiFfc/s800/IMG_8612.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-h6fb7GddLcA/UkrgnQTHrlI/AAAAAAAAEfc/PNi26MhqwiM/s800/IMG_8613.JPG

Her tail has a very wavy movement and ends with quite some details. Unfortunately the paint is so-so. It looks like some dust was on the figure while painting it, making the white spots you see here.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-LWJqoqwNZIA/Ukrgnk7vaZI/AAAAAAAAEfk/3wwz5VsYOsA/s800/IMG_8614.JPG

Me has pink nailpolish on her nails, a very cute detail that has also been painted very good! There are some seamlines to be seen on her hand, especially on her middlefinger and her thumb.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-MZBT3QXB72w/UkrgnxnT2hI/AAAAAAAAEfo/pXvMaLOJFjQ/s640/IMG_8616.JPG

On her left-hand her index finger looks way too long? Or is it just me? The long index finger was probably needed to make sure that her finger reaches the trigger of her gun. And that makes us go to the next part from her to look at...

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-wwYvo09VkfU/UkrgpC9s6aI/AAAAAAAAEf0/KUdNJio1stw/s640/IMG_8617.JPG

...her gun! Here we see some fine detailing on the gun itself! The painting is one very simple grey/silver color, but the detailing in the sculpt itself is amazing!

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-05HH1XRrteg/UkrgqDtsB_I/AAAAAAAAEf8/uAi4arzfJzM/s640/IMG_8618.JPG

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-RNLWVob0UUY/UkrgqKorrNI/AAAAAAAAEf4/zNaSrF1ZOdQ/s640/IMG_8619.JPG

The loop (not sure if it is the correct English word, correct me if I'm wrong!) of the gun has a hole in it, a small detail that a lot of figures with guns don't seem to have!

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-9_dYSbllJZM/UkrgsazYP6I/AAAAAAAAEgQ/I7V5HhQ1Jd4/s800/IMG_8620.JPG

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-1nqKq_d-aVI/UkrgtTXAyJI/AAAAAAAAEgY/1nsIZLZ0alg/s800/IMG_8621.JPG

A small detail that I very much enjoy myself is that you can see the bullets loaded in her gun!

Let's move on to her planelegs!

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0N7Cv-Gws6o/Ukrgtm-qL7I/AAAAAAAAEgc/gAKAK2xb9cQ/s640/IMG_8622.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Y-WDW4LK08E/UkrgtkOaZmI/AAAAAAAAEgg/pOFSGSAv4f4/s640/IMG_8623.JPG

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-tpTNTqciOL4/UkrgukpzDgI/AAAAAAAAEgs/PGJ9ER2DC60/s640/IMG_8624.JPG

The painting and sculpting is overall quite nice here. Small decals have been used for the logo's.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-OuIYJghCQ6Q/Ukrgv6DFR4I/AAAAAAAAEg0/8Nqk2TZ725E/s640/IMG_8625.JPG

The painting was done with an airbrush, which makes the "lines" inbetween the different colored parts sometimes a bit blurry.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-bTlqchU3KrE/Ukrgvs7yB3I/AAAAAAAAEgw/e227gbdBqUw/s640/IMG_8626.JPG

I also noticed quite some dents and scuffs especially at Me's planelegs, but I'm not sure if these are factory defects or made by the previous owner.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-sV3PRTtt1Lk/UkrgyKqbi9I/AAAAAAAAEhA/cVaU_ekxlYs/s800/IMG_8627.JPG

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-nm8Ice4BKSE/UkrgzsTHQ1I/AAAAAAAAEhI/EO6AIlIPrK8/s800/IMG_8628.JPG

Just above her ankles are these small propellors which can be freely moved around. A nice gimmick!

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Y2MYRQlidBU/Ukrg1lyIwfI/AAAAAAAAEhU/48EMk_MMpR4/s800/IMG_8630.JPG

The feet have very nice details, such as the air vents on the backside. There are some small letdowns in paint, but those are only visible when looking from up close.

I really like the design of Me's feet. In Humikane's newer planeleg-designs from Strike Witches View spoilerHide spoilerhttp://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x108/darjon_photos/strike%20witches%20references/3458.jpg the characters can't walk around with their planelegs and are forced to immideatly start flying when put on. I like the idea that with these older designs that they can walk around (probably more "waddle around") and then start flying when needed.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-xWzig5uKzlI/Ukrg4GmuHnI/AAAAAAAAEhg/4sGPrnzX4FE/s800/IMG_8631.JPG

Me comes with a very simple base where she is glued on. A small printed text is on there, but not much of it is visible, since it's at the back of the base. A very weird design choice (or maybe a factory mistake?) since the other Mecha Musume figures from Toranoana have text at the front of their bases.

AmiAmi Pre-Owned

I got this figure from AmiAmi Pre-Owned at B/B condition. Which would mean the following:

Figure "B: Good - Item has been opened and contains signs of minor wear or damage. All parts are included." Well this sort of came true. The figure has some small scuffs (especially on her head) which I think happened at the previous owner and are not factory mistakes. Still, the figure is in a very good condition I think.

Box "B: Some damage to the box is visible." Well, I couldn't find damage on the box at all! Except that there is one sticker that I couldn't remove on the back of the box, which I think is the sales-sticker from the previous store selling her. I guess AmiAmi counts that as damage, since I couldn't find anything else!

Comparing to the others I own from this set

Comparing to the other 2 mecha musume girls I own from the set (ITEM #4716 and ITEM #4715) Me is a higher quality in my opinion, you can especially see this on her face!

A big comparison review from the full set can be expected when I finally find ITEM #9874 for an acceptable price!

Summary or tl;dr

Positive
- Very nice box design, window that can be opened feels very luxury!
- The artbook that comes with this figure is very good quality and an amazing extra!
- Amazing detailing in her face.
- More details than expected, especially in her gun!
- Propellors on her planelegs can be freely moved around.

Neutral
- Blisters do their work, come with wire to keep the figure in place.
- Quite some letdowns in the paint, but it was to be expected of a figure this age.
- Earpiece looks a bit weird in her ear, but the detailing is very good!

Negative
- No specific place in the box to put the book (can easily damage this way).
- Very long index finger on her left hand.
- Is she glued on the base the wrong way or is it a factory mistake?

The Scores

Sculpting 8/10
Very good details, especially at her gun. For the age of this figure (almost 10 years) it's higher than expected!

Painting 7/10
Quite some let-downs, no shading, simple colors. But they all do the job needed. Pluspoints for the very detailed face (especially eyes and lips).

Posing 8/10
Very simple, but a very powerful pose that gives you a good look at her detailed weapon.

Base 5/10
I think my base is the wrong way around or there has been a weird design-choice...anyway, the base itself is quite simple. Not too big, not too small.

Packaging 9/10
I absolutely love the packaging. It feels high quality and the blinded box that has a "window" that can be opened looks great! The only reason it's not a 10/10 is because there isn't room for the artbook to be in the box (causing it to damage).

Extra - The artbook 9/10
The book has artwork from a lot of guest-artists (drawing Humikane's characters) and a few drawings from Humikane himself. It's high quality paper and has a lot of drawings. An amazing extra to put with a figure!

Enjoyment 9/10
I enjoy this figure very much! The quality is better than what I expected and I am a huge Humikane Shimada and Mecha-Musume fan! There are a few letdowns for me, such as the base and quite some painting errors, but the detailing and her overall appereance make up for it!

And to finish it!

Here is how she stands in my current collection!

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-TZXpPTGBYCE/Ukrg3xuYzEI/AAAAAAAAEhk/P0cfg_oe7b0/s800/IMG_9517.JPG

(You can especially see very well in this picture how her base looks the wrong way around.)

For those who read all this way, Thank you! My next review will be about this prize figure (it's been a while since I reviewed a prize figure, right? ;) ): ITEM #63229 I hope to finish it up in a few weeks!

For interested in my GK's, I recently finished: ITEM #25814 But a lot if it went wrong, so she can be seen as probably my first "failed" GK...I will still write a detailed blog about her soon to share the experience with you guys!

I hope you enjoyed this review, you could also check my other reviews when interested! Here are a few of my recent ones (the list is too long to completely put here):

WolfiePie3 anno/i fa#16658784Sometimes getting a masters in something just for fun that isn't related to your job is kinda cool. One of my coworkers got his masters in something biology-related, but he does the same job I do.
That sounds like a pain to hunt for a position like that. Good luck!
I'm gonna have to figure out Mandarake lol. Though maybe that's not a good thing cause I'll have another outlet to shop from. XD
Ah that's true, especially if you end up selling them at some point.
How did your order get cancelled? I never understand how things can be going fine and then out of the blue an order gets cancelled. It happened to me and a group of people in the BJD community trying to do an order through Taobao. Everything was fine and then suddenly our proxy was like "couldn't pay on time sorry" and refunded our money. So we didn't lose anything but we had set up our group order specifically to pay ahead of the ordering deadline. XP

Yeah, I also though before to get a masters in something slightly related, but not actually close to my studies, haha! I also applied for a toy design master and a robotics master next to the master version of my bachelor. Both didn't accept me, but afterwards I thought that it maybe was better this way, haha! The subjects were super interesting, but it would probably have been money thrown out of a window, because you can't find any jobs like that. xD

Thank you! And yes, it is! Every time a job like that comes up there is so much competition. Most of the times I end up within the top 5, which is even more frustrating, because I got so close, yet not was selected. :( One day, one day...

Huh? Figure out? Mandarake is super simple to use and works like every other webshop?? The only thing you have to watch out for is that the shop has multiple stores, so you have to be sure to buy from the same store to save on shipping costs. :)

I would never sell any of my mecha musume figures, unless I would be in great debt or anything else with an emergency comes up! >.< But yeah, I even read stories about an artist or voice actor signature "lowering" the value of a figure, so I'm not surprised.

It was already sold out to someone else. :< I guess someone else bought it at (almost) the same time as me from the shop. I knew they had only one in stock. I was so sad when I missed out. I never saw this figure before and I'm not sure if I ever will now afterwards. :( :( :(

Your example is also weird...I guess a mistake from the proxy service that they didn't look at the payment deadline? That sucks! I once before had with a proxy that they forgot to bid on the lot I wanted the most on Yahoo! Japan. They didn't even apologize to me (still salty about it).

Maakie3 anno/i fa#16546951Well, why would you if you already have a good enough job you're happy with? ;) The only reason why I thought about a masters myself, is to have a better possibility in getting a job.
I'm currently in that phase with my job, with still trying to get a job to let it be more like "doing my volunteer work, but paid". Event manager-like jobs are ultra-rare, so I only come across them about 2-3 times a year. I always respond on them with the speed of light and with a long motivation letter, lol.
Haha, same from me with Mandarake. BOX IS DAMAGED. Get box. See nothing. ???
Yeah with figures it's also because I see them as collectibles that I want to keep in their original state. So I rather not meddle with them, even though it would have been an improvement.
Hehe, thanks! But because of the rarity and small scale I was thinking of maybe trying to find a comissioner if I actually managed to get Italia-san. Unfortunately my order got cancelled and I'm not sure if I will ever see her again. :(

Sometimes getting a masters in something just for fun that isn't related to your job is kinda cool.

XP

WolfiePie3 anno/i fa#16474072I could look around and get a masters somewhere else, but I'm lazy. >w>; There's a convenience to having the masters be at the same school as the bachelors, cause you can just continue on with the same professors.
I think, as long as the degree helps pay the bills, then it's worth it. Or even if your job is mundane, as long as you can still do things you like (cosplay, collect figures, etc) then it's not a waste.
They came quicker than I was anticipating, which was nice. And yah, they looked pretty much new to me, which was an added bonus. I just got a figure from AmiAmi that was marked as used, A-rank, and I don't think it was ever even opened. Like all the tape was still intact, along with the plastic joint guards. But hey, I won't complain if all "used" things look like new. XD
Hmm that's true, I also like the "leave it as it came" appearance for figures, unless it's something like a small paint chip I can fix easily. And I bet you could've made that Italia-san GK look awesome!

Maakie3 anno/i fa#16241697It's not possible to get a masters' elsewhere than where you did your bachelors'? Or is the system really different from that in the US?
That's really nice! :) Sometimes I think back and wished I got a different degree myself. :( But then I think...like what?! Almost everything I'm interested in is not really something with a lot of job opportunities. The other option is to go for something more generic business/finance/economy-like for a degree, but everyone that can't choose gets a degree like that, so there are too much from them on the market!
That's pretty quick I think! :O Took 20 days to get to you with slow shipping!
And hehe, leave it up to the Japanese to have 'used' items being in pristine condition, lol! I hope you have lots of fun with the books! :) Don't feel rushed to send me pics, if you end up making them I would love to see, though!
You could do that...I would rather not risk it myself and keep the figure as original as possible. I did once almost got ITEM #288514 which would have meant that I had to paint everything myself. Pretty sure I could have done a better job than what the Toranoana figure has. ;^)

WolfiePie3 anno/i fa#16196837Yah, masters programs over here are just as expensive as college, sometimes more. I wish my college had biology masters programs, but it only has things like English and business, which is not useful to me at all. XP
I'm lucky in the sense that my major is my money-maker. So I can do other things for fun and not have to worry- like drawing and cosplay. XD
So the books were actually from Japan, and arrived yesterday! They look great for supposedly being second hand. I still haven't opened them to look just yet. Maybe this weekend. I was actually surprised they arrived, cause I had end of November-December in my head.
Though now I have an AmiAmi package on the way so that will be my next slow thing to arrive haha.
I'll see if I can put a review together. Though I can send you come shots before I put it together. :3
I'm wondering if there's a way to mix a paint to match her skin and just paint over her legs and shoes to clean everything up. Hmmmmm.

Maakie3 anno/i fa#15799863Ah~ Same like mine. You can still find work or start a company with a bachelor's, but it's also possible to do a master. Long story, but getting a master was for me so expensive and would take so much more time, that I kept it to bachelor only. :P
Hehe, that was what I expected. I'm not dumb or something, but I was never the type to study, which is why I went for a "fun" subject like I did. It bit me in the butt though, because it's mainly freelance work and temporary hires for small projects. *sigh* So you still need to do another job to be able to pay the bills.
Yes, that is something I also like about the slow shipping I mainly have. xD I always have multiple things on it's way to me (both big and small), so whenever I have a "We missed you!"-slip, I'm like "ooooooooooohhh, which one of my things would it be!" :D
Both is fine, haha! I just really like reading reviews, but I know how much work can go into writing one myself. ;)
Whahah, that's a nice idea. xD Poor Italia-san. I think her face and posing is so cute, why did the figure have to turn out like that... TT^TT

WolfiePie3 anno/i fa#15761020It's a bachelor's biology degree job, but some people do a masters for it (a few of my coworkers did). There's also The Histology and Pathology branches as well, but histo-tech degrees are rare in the states, and pathology you usually need a doctorate. And I know nothing about the media hahaa. Our paths have taken us very different places, but that's okay, cause the world needs people in all fields of study. :3
And yah, it was a crazy, packed four years of classes and labs. I didn't get to take many "for fun" classes in college because of it. XP
The seller is I think Chinese, but yah, they do standard snail-mail delivery, so it's literally coming on a "slow boat from China". But that's ok, cause it'll break up getting a bunch of packages at once. And I'll probably forget about them, so it'll be a surprise. XD
And yes! I can do a review of the Art of Strike Witches book when I get it. Or I can just send you pics haha.
I feel like we could write a joke manga called "Italia-san and the terrible tan". XD

Maakie3 anno/i fa#15742382Oh~ Your type of job sounds like something you would need a doctor's or high biology-degree for over here. Or maybe something more close to our forensics-studies over here. Hehe, it's completely not my field (I'm a media/management/ICT-graduate), so I don't know much about it.
And oh wow, I didn't know you could get it so quick! :O But I guess that's a very heavy 2-4 years.
Ah, nice! I wish you lots of fun with both of them! :) I guess you got them from an JP seller, so that's why the shipping will take a while? If you're up for it, I would love to see a review from the Strike Witches art book. :)
Well, Italia-san does have tanlines showing in her alternate body. Which makes the weird legs/feet stand out even more. >.<
I hope it works out for you! Good luck! :)

WolfiePie3 anno/i fa#15696098I'm not a doctor or anything hahaa. My degree was 4 years of college, with the 4th year being an internship working at a hospital. And then you have to take a certification exam and pass to get the title added to your name/credentials. There's a two-year version of my degree as well. So if you go to college right out of high school (17-18), you can be graduated and working by 21-22. And Some people only work one department. I'm considered a generalist so I'm trained in multiple departments.
I just got a second-hand copy of the book off eBay last night! It was around $30 USD, and I also got a copy of the Strike Witches art book, which was $21. So For around $50 USD I got both. I'm so excited to own them, but they wont be here till late November-early December... *cries*
Italia-san looks like me when I forget to put sunscreen on my legs and go to the beach. She has a bathing suit on anyways, so I guess you can pretend she got a bad tan? XD
I will have to investigate the Google+ photo option. See if I can figure it out.

Still, that's a very interesting job, I guess also pretty hard to get considering your age? For a job like that over here you need to go to college for at least 8 years (6 years basic learning and 2 years specialisation).
Yeah, I try to not buy too much items that are marked-up, but with this book I didn't exect something so niche to get a re-print... *sigh* It's not that bad I guess, I paid around 125% for a secondhand one if I remember correctly.
Italia-san has the weirdest legs and feet. I don't know where Toranoana's QC went that day...probably on a long lunch break lol.
Yeah Google tried to launch their own social media site, but it failed so much, haha. Anybody that uses Gmail automatically has a (hidden) Google+. I always used Picasaweb from Google for linking pictures, but they merged with Google+ (just like how Youtube merged with Google(+)), sometimes I don't understand all the weird stuff Google does, but take your advantage with it, as Google+ has unlimited storage space for pictures, haha!
