Kromert's (old) Collection - A Trip To StorageKromert's (old) Collection - A Trip To StorageDiary

What's up, MFC? Been a while! I've been too busy these days to blog as often as I was, but this is something that I've wanted to do for a while now.

If you've read the blog before, welcome back! If not, thanks for droppin by!

As some of you are aware, I post Gundam kit reviews and modeling tutorials, but I've never really posted much of anything personal. I've been a user here for about half a year now, and I love the MFC community- It's full of down to earth people who are great to chat with!

So I've decided to rewind to when I was a kid, and share with anyone who's interested a little bit of what started my life as a life-long collector. Over the weekend, I went to storage to retreive my old Generation 1 Transformers collection. My aunt, who gave me many of them as a child, now has a grandson of her own, and asked if I could send her some.

While I was there, I grabbed a good chunk of stuff- Not even close to all of it, but about 8 rubbermaids full of various toys from the 80's and 90's. These are some of the ones I found noteworthy. So let's get into this!

More Than Meets The Eye...
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/06/23/1028769.jpeg
Generation 1, homie. We kick it old-school.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/06/23/1028770.jpeg
There are some Beast Wars mixed in here and there, but still more Gen 1's.

I love Transformers. And no, I don't watch it today. I'm talking the Cartoon from the 80's. The movie with Leonard Nimoy, Eric Idle, and Orson Welles. The "Megatron cant support himself when he transforms" Transformers.

Being born when I was, I had many older cousins who liked Transformers, but were past that, and so I inherited much of their collection. (Who would have ever thought they'd become so valuable? Not my Aunt! Ku ku ku...) But really, I've had most of these since I was very little. When I got into middle school, I discovered this place called eBay and began adding to my collection- Weather I was missing one of the Predacons, needed to finish the "Blaster's Tapes" collection, or wanted the barrel I had lost for the tip of transformed Shockwave, I could find it. For many years, they were displayed proudly in my room, but went to storage when I moved outta my parents house 6 years ago. I really haven't seen them since, so it was really nostalgic for me!

A Long Time Ago, In A Galaxy Far Far Away...
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/06/23/1028767.jpeg
Some 90's Micro-Machine toys and a friggin HUGE Millenium Falcon.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/06/23/1028768.jpeg
Some of my vintage Star Wars figures, labeled between '77-'83.

I rep the Empire, and I love Star Wars. Having a sister who was in her late teens when I was born, and was also a Star Wars nerd, I became one myself. When I was a kid, I always thought Boba Fette was way cooler than Superman or Batman. (Still do!)
Again, this is just some of what I have. I almost took a pic of those weird "solid-rubber" figures made in '94, I wouldn't doubt that I have most of them.
Many of these were bought at a store called Rubber Chicken, which was a used toy store where I lived in Massachusetts. Again, these toys weren't exactly expensive back then, so I came across plenty as a kid. And I have a habit of never getting rid of anything. Collecting runs in my blood! (And metachlorians. Tons of those.)

Will Anybody EVER Catch Them All???

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/06/23/1028766.jpeg
Tons of assorted Pokemon crap from the 90's.

I also love Pokemon. And I'm not one of those dudes who thinks the new gen games suck, either. I absolutely love Diamond/Pearl, may be my favs. But that aside, like so many kids, I was swept by the Pokemon craze in the 90's. And this random assortment of stuff proves it- Everything from Burger King toys to stationary. (The Bulbasaurs are pencil sharpeners. Definitely putting one on my desk!) I know there's more stuff than this buried, but some of this is actually pretty cool. The Venasuar figure can "vine whip" you!

SO, FOR BONUS POINTS-
WHAT is Kromert's favorite Pokemon? (Hints- Orig. 150, Purple, Not pictured.)

Just Under Six Feet, Just Over In My Exo-Suit

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/06/23/1028764.jpeg

Exo Squad was a show I watched like crazy as a kid, and being that that's the case, I remember almost nothing about it. Does anybody else see the "giant robot" trend that would soon mold a future Gundam fanboy? No, no, not at all.
Really though, I dont have a lot to say about these, other than I know I loved the show, and I think they're badass. The two in the back are really big. The "blue-ish grey-ish one could step on a 1/144 Gundam. (And before someone corrects me, the two little dudes on the far right are from Macross, another show I watched that I hardly remember.)

Attack Packs? The Hell Are Those?

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/06/23/1028765.jpeg

Good question! I really dont remember. Idk if there was a show, or they were just some collectible- But I freaking loved them. If you're not familiar with them, they were monsters in the shape of vehicles, and they have a switch, button, lever, something on them that will open the vehicle's "jaw". They're pretty coo! As you can see, I have quite a few, including some duplicates. The condition of them is decent enough considering the age, but they're definitely a little rough around the edges. Either way, they're still pretty cool, and I plan on making room on the shelf for a couple of these!

And Some Random Stuff That Krom Found Mildly Interesting-
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/06/23/1028771.jpeg

We've got some Digimon, which I kinda sorta watched for like a year. Never liked it like I liked Pokemon though. And a Beetleborgs vehicle in horrible shape, but still kinda cool. Toys from the 80's and 90's were just so much more badass- and built so much better, to boot! Unfortunately, my vintage Voltron can't prove that point. I'ma call it like it is- he is just plain fucked. But STILL an oldschool Voltron, busted or no!
Also, those Krillin figures that every person reading this has ten of. What happens when an unstoppable Krillin meets and unmovable Krillin? TRICK QUESTION, there are no such things!
And then a '91 Shredder figure with his Technodrome. Not sure how they fit the whole Foot Clan in a 1 seater. Maybe they should have called it "The Sock"...

But lame jokes aside, that's what I've got for all of you! There is plenty of stuff not pictured- Next I wanna go back and get my Z-Bot collection (my dad and I are sure I have every single one of them) and also my large bucket of badass DBZ figures, including THIS GUY.

I love collecting, and always have since a young age. Of course, nowadays, the focus of my collection tends to be Gunpla, Anime girls, and various anime merch- But you already knew that, cuz I'm here on MFC!

I'm sure I could ramble more, but I'll let you finish the article here. Thanks so much for reading, and I hope you found anything interesting!

Do you have any memories of any of the shows/toys I posted? I'd love to hear em!

And Bonus Points to the commenter who names the most Transformers from the above pics!

(Disclaimer- Kromert's bonus points aren't worth anything, but he thanks you for your participation.)

Thanks again guys, and I'll be back in a couple days for the next installment of Mobile Suit Tuesdays!

Until then, from windy Wyoming-
See ya, space cowboy!

DelicateThunder6 anno/i fa#2214314Vintage Voltron!!!!!! Broken or no, still a badass acquisition. My husband found a vintage Veritech he picked up from who knows where. Skull Squadron too!
Seeing this makes me nostalgic for all the She-ra, MotU stuff I used to have that my mom gave away many, many long years ago. (Along with all of my Generation 1 MLP.) Guess there's no going back. ^_^'
Nice Pokeswag, especially the Snorlax item. I think it's humanly impossible to catch 'em all. Gotta give Ash mad love for being crazy enough to try though.

See, thing is, I know I have the other leg and an arm, plus the head, all floating around somewhere. A lot of my old stuff isn't sorted in any particular way, either, so they could be in any number of toy buckets, lol. But I hear ya, I've got some old MotU that I didn't find in this haul, and I'm glad I've still got em. (Even though they're really old and the joints suck lol)

And idk, I'm sure there is SOMEONE out there who has caught every single one, thats in the games though. Ash had more adversities, lol.

Emboar5006 anno/i fa#2214317Hi, I like your pokemon collection, your lucky you preserve your old pokemon colllection for a long time. I also like your Jigglypuff one, so cute, I also have one but in an unusual color, here it is
(and sorry for terrible image quality =P )

Hey, thank you! I know I'm pretty lucky, it's definitely cool to still have around. I think I've decided I wanna put some back on display. And no worries, the image quality is just fine! That sure is a strangely colored Jigglypuff though, lol. Is it just really old?

KalasRaven6 anno/i fa#2214427Digimon and Star Wars!! <3333 The little Metalgreymon is so cute! X3 Dat vintage Star Wars stuff. I'm jelly! ;_;
I have to be honest with you, I didn't even remember having these old Star Wars figures, I was pretty surprised looking at the dates on some of them. I'm sure I have more around, it's just a question of where, lol. I've got plenty of the 90's Star Wars figs but they just aren't as cool, dammit!

Man, I'm really surprised by the number of Digimon fans who posted, I honestly never knew it was that popular =P

yukimayari6 anno/i fa#2214854I was in the same boat (even I thought I was weird for wanting Transformers or other 'bots) but when I was a kid Transformers were "old" and when my mom offered to buy me some, there was nothing left to buy anymore... ;_; So I got to play with my brother's collection instead! (Or what was left after searching the attic. The box seemed to have disappeared somewhere) Now, I have a small collection of robots displayed, and no one can question the fact that I like them!
THANK GOD for hand-me-downs, am I right? At least you managed to luck out and find some! I wonder when Transformers became all "popular" and "vintage". I remember the same, one day you could buy 'em at the store, next day POOF! (That's clearly exaggerated, lol. But you know what I mean.)
You have any of your bro's old ones in your collection today? My "displayed" collection is mostly Gundams these days, but I wanna work some old transformers into my limited space, lol.

ponnie6 anno/i fa#2214143Some cool stuff you have there! I really loved Transformers as a kid, but when I asked my parents to get me one of the super cool Transformers toys they bought me... a Barbie.
That's what you get for being a girl. Not even your parents believe that all you really want is a huge and cool Optimus Prime truck :P

BlueMonday6 anno/i fa#2214231Skeleton Warriors? "Every toy line seems to have at least one skeleton-themed villain, so why not up the ante and make everyone (and their horse) a skeleton?" I never got into those, but I do remember seeing them on the shelves..

Yep, that's it exactly, nicely done! I have probably 4 or 5 from that show, and also some kind of vehicle thing? (Pretty sure it's from that, not 100%)

Nice thing about a whole community of collectors, somebody will always know what it is you have. I love the internet. =]

ponnie6 anno/i fa#2214242I know, Optimus is super cool! I was a real fan as kid - it was a big kick when I was small, and we kids formed two gangs at our kindergarten and played Transformers vs. Decepticons all days long, and then rushed home to see the new episode to discuss it first thing in the morning and those lucky ones who got the rare toys (at the time) were the coolest kids and so on. When I started school Transformers were not so popular here anymore (it was all about Sailor Moon) - and the show was moved to 7 a.m. in the morning and there was no way I'd go to school without watching the new episode. I am not a exactly fan anymore but I have to say that I have the warmest memories about it. I have to admit that my first love was no one else but Ultra Magnus, really, who wants boys and Disney princes when there's a huge cool robot that kicks ass? I really wanted to re-watch the whole thing a couple of years ago but then gave up on the idea because animation made a huge step forward since then and I did change a lot myself and I don't want to ruin all the good memories I have.
Anyways, thanks for making such a nostalgic post. It really made my morning brighter! :)

You're very welcome, glad it made your morning better! Thanks for the kind words. And I'll admit, I never watched it all that much on TV, but that's cuz my dad ran a video store, so I was always privileged with the VHS's, lol. And unfortunately, it never really was popular at my school, and to this day I don't really have any Transformer-fan-friends. All my friends have always looked at em as "more toys that weirdo collects" XD
Ultra Magnus is actually on the shelf in my room in convoy mode. (Original, of course) I think the toy is funny, they recycled the "Prime" body but just painted it all white and gave it a slightly different head. It's still cool though! He was a badass, I always thought Rodimus kinda robbed him of his chance to shine, lol.

And I hear ya, re-watching something like that can ruin it, but for me, Transformers is something I could watch whenever. When that "Matrix Of Leadership" boxed set came out a few years back I bought it, couldn't pass it up! And I don't even know how many copies of the movie I have lying around. Hell, to this day I have an Autobots logo on the tailgate of my pick-up!

I've never watched any of the spin-offs (sans BeastWars) but my nephews are really into the newest one, whatever it is. The toys were just never as good as the oldies. And sadly, I must agree with you on animation...when you watch kick-ass anime all day with awesome production, it makes the 80's american shows look pretty rough, lol.

Kromert6 anno/i fa#2214188Thank you! That's pretty rough, I'm sorry! But dude, it's just a fact that O.P. is way cooler than any Barbie will ever be, lol. Pretty cool to come across a female Transformers fan though! You still like it these days? And thanks for sharing!

BlueMonday Baton-bu desu.
Kromert6 anno/i fa#2214188I have to admit, its more on my mom than me for keeping this all around for so long. I'm very grateful though. If I ever end up having kids, they're gonna love all the cool stuff I've got, lol. But I have stuff from almost everything you mentioned. My TMNT collection is nice, but I didn't get that. (None of the buckets are marked, so I just grabbed a truck-full of random ones to sort through.)
Ah, the random toy-lines of the 90's. I have so many toys/figures that I cant for the life of me remember what they even were =P (I have this set of Skeleton-like dudes, I remember it was a show, but idk what, lol)

yukimayari6 anno/i fa#2214131Wheeeeee so many Transformers! So many Pokemon, so many Digimon! XDDDD
... Sorry, my brain broke from so much epic nostalgia!
It's amazing you still have so much stuff from when you were younger. I barely have anything left of the Pokemon figures I used to have! I'm the opposite from everyone else who commented so far - I LOVED Digimon and watched it almost religiously until the end of Season 3/Tamers, but for Pokemon I actually preferred the games over the anime.

Quite all right, imagine how I felt on Saturday digging through all this stuff! It was nostalgia central! lol. And I liked Digimon, just like I said, not as much. I remember when a movie came to the states, prolly late 90's? They played it in theatres where I live, and I remember going to see it with my dad.
There's also a Wormon that's been in the package on the wall of my garage for at least ten years, lol. I've got a ton of cards, too.

BlueMonday6 anno/i fa#2214147I've always been the same way - never really willing to get rid of my old toys - and so I've been "collecting" pretty much my whole life. Lots of Masters of the Universe, GI Joe, TMNT, Star Wars, a decent selection of Transformers, Dino-Riders, and MASK, and then random handfuls of other countless toy lines that came and went. Super Naturals.. Sectaurs.. Freaking Barnyard Commandos.
No Krillin, though. >_>

ghirahim6 anno/i fa#2214152Seeing as your favourite isn't Gengar (they're actually my favourite pokemon!) I'm guessing it's either Ghastly or Haunter?
I have a feeling my brother used to, or still does, own the same minellium falcon as well. It looks really familiar and I know he has a tonne of star wars stuff.
I wish I still had my pokemon stuff, but for the time being I don't have access to it :< I have to say I preferred Pokemon over Digimon, but my boyfriend is the complete opposite!

Ding ding ding, Johnny, tell her what she won! =P
It is Haunter though. Gyarados is a very close second. But Haunter was just so friggin cool! And besides, you evolve him and he can be affected by "Normal" attacks! 0_o
You should ask him if he still has it! It's a pretty cool little "playset" (it opens and has the full interior) and its massive!
"Not having access" is how I felt with all this stuff shoved in the far corner of a huge storage unit. I'm sorry though dude, hopefully you'll be able to get to them soon! Pokemon was where it was at! =]

TyjosAzari6 anno/i fa#2214155You have some pretty cool Transformers there, I've had a few of those in my collection prior to the purge. I'll have to look at the photos closer to see all the ones you've got I know I had Metroplex.
Cool stuff.

Thanks a lot! Metroplex is such a badass Transformer. Mine is separated at the waist, but I dont doubt my modeling skills could fix him good as new! Though I am lacking most of his accessories at this point...Oh well! Wish I had Trypticon to compliment him. =]
I wanna try and get most of these out/fixed and on display!
