Solaris Japan Review - Pre-owned Okumura BrothersSolaris Japan Review - Pre-owned Okumura Brothers

I just received my Solaris Japan order today and as a few people have requested, they wanted me to do a review on the site itself as well as the items' state they arrived to me in.

First off I would just like to talk about the site itself. In the UK, the customs here are tighter than a chicken's ass, so I always try to do my best to avoid them and Solaris Japan give you the nice option to mess around with the value of the item or items within the invoice. When you proceed to the checkout you are greeted with this slider bar which allows you to change the declaration of the item's value, thous lowering the custom's charges.

This is one of the big things that I wish websites like AmiAmi would use because it just makes everything that bit quicker and cheaper. So I decided to place my order with Solaris Japan through my Apple ipad mini. I'm just assuming this is like this on all mobile apple devices, but the customs invoice bar did NOT show up and I got hit with the full £39 of custom charges. (Thanks Apple)

But before that, I noticed my items had not been shipped yet and I sent them a message saying could I mess with the invoice before it was shipped. This was just a day after I had placed my order. They actually got back quite quickly to me but by then it was too late and my items were shipped so they nicely apologized. They also told me to in future, place my declaration for the item's value in the special message box they also provide you with at the end of the checkout instead. So if you are ordering off of an Apple product, make sure you place your declaration for the item or items' value within that message box instead.

So the customer services is top notch from my experience with it anyway.

My items were shipped out on the 10th of January and arrived to me earlier today on the 20th and I also chose SAL mail. It got here quite quickly and I was more than impressed with how they were packaged considering it was SAL.

Here's the box it was shipped in.

The only scare I had on the box was this. But that was probably just due to the handling of it and the ropes constantly digging into the sides of the box. So really, it's nothing.

They were then sandwiched between these bubble blanket thingys and there was a few more also at the bottom.

And then wrapped neatly in bubble wrap and taped together securely so that the bubble wrap didn't come loose in transit.

After my epic battle with the bubble wrap, I thoroughly examined the actual figure boxes themselves for damage. I was expecting some so I wasn't surprised when I found stuff like scuffs and creases. I didn't want to load up Photoshop so instead, I circled the important bits with pretty rainbows, you're welcome.

This is really just the worst bit of damage I could find on Yukio's box which was really nice. Nothing that bothers me really.

http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2015/020/0/8/photo_20_01_2015_8_42_46_pm_by_corrupted_mirror-d8epl4g.jpg

Then the part I was dreading the most, the figures themselves. The only real damage on Yukio was the paint transfer just above and next to his eye. I assumed it was from the glasses but then after messing around with him and ripping his head off, I noticed it was from his removable fringe. It's not exactly easy getting it on and off without scraping it against his face. Also, I didn't just feel like ripping the dude's fringe off, he comes with a changeable face plate and you need to remove the fringe in order to get his glasses on.

http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2015/020/6/3/photo_20_01_2015_8_45_48_pm_by_corrupted_mirror-d8epl4c.jpg

Here's a clearer shot of the catastrophe. My bootaful Apple ipad mini camera took this.

http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2015/020/b/f/photo_20_01_2015_9_40_58_pm_by_corrupted_mirror-d8eppot.jpg

Before I put his glasses on I looked at them in the packet and it did look re-sealed but they were perfectly flat which confused me as hell because you actually had to manually bend the (legs?) of the glasses into place yourself. But I noticed the main pair and spare were untouched so I guess the previous owner didn't bother with them which was a win for me. Har har.

http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2015/020/6/4/photo_20_01_2015_8_46_22_pm_by_corrupted_mirror-d8epl47.jpg

The only fixing I had to do on this figure was the dust. The poor ejit had just dust in places no man should ever have dust. So I took my paintbrushes and did my best at removing it all and polished up his base so everything looked new. He must have been lying around on a shelf for a while, he was also FREEZING. Most of you probably already know this but just be careful when handling a really cold figure as it can easily make it brittle and parts can snap off no problem. So when I was removing Yukio's head and arm and what not, I made sure I just heated up that area with my breath briefly so it didn't do anything like break.

Now onto Rin's box. Again, the damage was quite minimal here so I guess Solaris Japan have their own little rating system as to what they will and will not accept regarding pre-owned figures and so far it looks like quite a reasonable one as they do not state the figure's condition on their site.
The only damages I could find on Rin's box was tiny little scuffs on the paint or stickers or whatever and one small-ish dent on the bottom on the box where it looks like someone lifted it with quite some force. (wai) But again, doesn't bother me in the slightest.

http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2015/020/0/e/photo_20_01_2015_8_48_33_pm_by_corrupted_mirror-d8epl41.jpg

One more bit of damage was weird as it was on the blister pack itself. I'm guessing this may have been someone's first figure and they thought they had to cut through it but luckily enough they seemed to have stopped themselves before they caused real damage. It's just a clean slit near where Rin's head was, everything else was perfectly fine.

http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2015/020/a/3/photo_20_01_2015_8_46_43_pm_by_corrupted_mirror-d8epl44.jpg

And as I predicted, Rin was in complete perfect condition compared to the poor unwanted shit Yukio. No dust, whatsoever and he also wasn't freezing like Yukio. Wainoonegivnoluv2ubra. Maybe it's cause he kinda looks like a nazi lul

Thank god my Kuro doesn't have the derp face I've seen on some of these figures XD

Also, one last thing I'd just like to mention. I'm really at surprised how tall these figures are. Yukio is the taller of the two and he's about five centimeters (roughly) off of the height of my 1/6 scale of my Rock N' Roll Valentine Sonico.

Here's just a few pictures of them all fixed up.

So in the end do I recommend Solaris Japan? Yes I definitely would. They have some pretty hard to get figures on their site for reasonable enough prices and their customer service to me is quite quick and friendly. I can't fault them in any way and you can also alter and make special requests in your invoice. What more could you ask for?

Thanks very much for reading my review and I look forward to reading any feedback!

I have read quite a few positive responses online regarding dealing with Solaris Japan. Only then I had decided to order my long awaited Endless Winter piece from Solaris. I was really looking forward to reaching this particular piece. I paid 17186 Yen in total for a BRAND NEW piece as advertised on their site.

The package was not at all held up at customs and was unopened / undamaged. But upon opening the package....It turned out to be a broken, used, damaged piece with cracks at several places. Not talking about the inner carton and packaging which is also in poor condition. Cant express how disappointed I am.

I have written to Solaris. They have never responded to my emails in the past and have no hopes with this issue either.

I have been cheated by Solaris. I received at least one figure a day on average. Have never been this disappointed. I can only warn my fellow collectors regarding dealing with Solaris Japan.

Creamysan (3 anno/i fa) #2701180Like 2 days ago, and I just checked again, there is not an option to have tracking while checking out. Hopefully they have an answer by today.

Corrupted-Mirror (3 anno/i fa) #2701132That's odd. I didn't choose that option myself but I think it gives you the option to have tracking when you are on the checkout page. How long ago was it since you messaged them? It took a day for them to message me back.

Creamysan (3 anno/i fa) #2700884The shipping I chose was "Saver", so the Tracking is optional, but I was wondering when and where I choose that option, I sent them an email asking for the tracking upgrade, but they haven't replayed me yet. And how much the upgrade to SAL registered cost? anyone has an idea?
I bought this figure: ITEM #91361 with Saver shipping (3100 yen)
