Hello :) I recently got that awesome and absolutely beautiful Gilgamesh figure. The only bad thing about that figure was the base he came with. No matter how much I looked at it, I just couldn’t stand it. It felt like cheap plastic and let’s face it, it’s not really visually appealing. Since his stand goes into the base, I thought I could easily make him a new one.

With an electronic ruler, I measured the diameter of the peg that went into the base (4,85 mm) and with that I had the dimension of the hole that would be in the center of the base.

Fortunately, a summoning circle printed on a plastic sheet was included. I put it on a piece of paper and scanned it. With that, I had the dimension of my base and the pattern that would be engraved on it.

My dad then helped me with the laser cutting and engraving software since I have no idea how that works.

Once all was good, I made sure to use an acrylic sheet that was thick enough so the peg wouldn’t go all the way through the sheet. I used a 4.5 mm thick acrylic sheet. That’s the laser engraving machine we used.

I don’t know if you can see well, but that’s the acrylic sheet with the summoning circle being engraved on it. When the engraving was done, the laser cut the hole and the edge of the base.

That’s the final product :) The hole was a little loose the first time so we redid another one with a hole of 4,75 mm of diameter and it fit perfectly.

Here’s a comparison of the summoning circle that came with the figure (on the left) and the one that I made (on the right).

That’s it, I just wanted to share how I did it :)
I hope that I was clear enough for you to understand (explaining in English was more difficult than I thought) and that maybe it’ll inspire you to create new bases for your figures ^^

bmyserenity5 anno/i fa#2818435Aahhh I understand.. Well it certainly is easier to make something when you have a specific idea in mind. Anyway, good luck if you decide to make something :)

Yeahh. Thanks!! XD

xueren5 anno/i fa#2816585I've actually thought about it but I'm still not sure what I'll make and I'll have to ask for permission to use the machine and that's one thing I hate...having to ask.

bmyserenity5 anno/i fa#2807459Thank you ^^ You should try to make something while you can! If you don't you might regret it later.. and it's actually quite satisfying to create something unique :P

Thanks :) That's what I thought when I got him; Gilgamesh is quite heavy and beautiful that the base felt a little cheap compared to him.

We have a few laser cutting/engraving machines in school and we're thought how to use it but in my 3 years of studying there, I always try to avoid having to use it because I don't trust myself with it, and having to do all that computer stuff is annoying. Since I'm graduating already, hopefully I can sneak back in and get some stuff done if I ever have the need.

grymdylan5 anno/i fa#2806417I don't at all dislike the base he comes with, and I want to get him so I can have him raised up on it... But fuck, goood job with the new base. Very cool.

Thanks :P Everyone's got their own tastes and I'm glad that you like the original base because it only means that it's not gonna ruin the figure for you :)

wingman135 anno/i fa#2799209Awesome! I think it really helps that you have easy access to the necessary equipment (and someone who knows how to use it).
You know, you might want to think about selling customs bases for figures. I'm sure there are plenty of people who would be interested in a custom base but don't have the skill or equipment to make one themselves.

It does help a lot! I wouldn’t have been able to do something similar without the appropriate equipment.

I’ve actually thought about selling custom bases but there are a few problems… First of all, I don’t own the company (my dad does) and unfortunately he only takes orders from companies since he had quite a few bad experiences with individual customers. Second, it would only work with bases that have pegs going into the base (and not pegs going into the figure) like figmas and nendoroids for example. Then, there would be the problem of whether it will fit or not. We had to redo the base since the hole was a little bit too big for mine but if we were to make custom bases, we wouldn’t be able to tell if it would fit (and I doubt anyone would be willing to send their whole figure…). Lastly, I’m not sure I’d be allowed to sell anything that’s not an original design; I’d probably get in trouble for selling something that’s a reproduction :/

I’m sorry I couldn’t be more useful but what I can recommend you though, is going to a local engraver. That way, you’re sure to get a base that fits and it won’t cost you a large sum of money in shipping. Hope that helps :)

That is really, really awesome! Great job. It looks so amazing.
lirasy5 anno/i fa#2799215Whoa, that's seriously amazing! I love the new base. :D It's so cool!cassopeia5 anno/i fa#2803788Wow! I thought you used another base from another figure but that you build it from scratch is really impressive. It looks awesome.Knight-Hart5 anno/i fa#2804622
Oh, Gilgamesh would be pleased.

Thank you all for your kind comments :)
