Sewing an ItabagSewing an Itabag

UntramenUntramen1 anno/i faDiary
Well I've already made a dakimakura. It was only a matter of time that I made an itabag.

Of course, I'm obtuse and I don't seem to like the popular series or the popular characters with enough merchandise to make a bag with, but I still always wanted to try making an itabag somehow.

But itabag bases cost a lot and there is way too much display space for my paltry collection for some characters, so I decided to sew up a small itabag for myself.

I started with this free clutch pattern I found online. The pattern uses "fat quarters" so you can easily make this bag with some fabric from the remnants section, and it seemed easy enough to give it a try. Here is the link to the pattern if you wanna give it a try:
www.sewmamasew....

I also bought clear vinyl from Joann's as well, and I bought quite a bit just in case I messed up, and honestly the clear plastic seemed useful later on.

I'm no master at sewing. I can hem clothes somewhat, but the instructions confused me here and there every once in a while because the pictures just seemed so... zoomed in and angled in a way where I don't understand what they're trying to get at 100%. I messed up a few times.

I really should've taken some progress shots trying to make it, but I think it came out fairly well for my first try at it!

This itabag is dedicated to Yukimura from Fire Emblem Fates, or it would be, if I could figure out how to keep the charm in place "OTL

So for now, I plan to go to AX with it just filled with some pins and can badges

Sorta lame, I know.

But the bag was... sorta easy to make? A little hard because I got confused a few times, but now that I know how to do it I might give it another go and make a nicer one! And hopefully much cuter than this one!

Thank you for reading!

I think it looks very nice! :D Also thank you for linking the pattern! I am also interested in getting into itabagging, but don't like the designs or shapes from official ones too much. So I have been thinking about making my own too. :)

machuba (1 anno/i fa) #22871367Oh this is such a good idea!! I have a similar problem where the characters i like dont get a ton of merch.. or i just dont own the amount needed to fill a large ita bag. I may have to give this a shot.
Your final product looks really great! Cute! And Yukimura's a good choice hehe

Yeah I'm happy to get the Yukimura FE Cipher cards haha and fan merch of him is nonexistent. I had to make the acrylic charm myself LOL. I was pleased to find him on two FE14 sticker sheets, and converted the stickers into as magnet. I also found someone who was selling a badge of him though I do wish I could find more.

Good luck on your own itabag journey if you decide to embark on it!

tharglet (1 anno/i fa) #22845604By the charm, do you mean the acrylic one in the middle? Looks like it has a loop, so if it were me, I'd get one of the tiny metal rings you get on the phone charms (some you have to bend, some are like mini-keyring loops), put that on it then you can either safety pin it if you want it to be temporary, or stitch it if you want it to be permanent.
I made that charm myself and I do have a few other charms on sale in my online store too.
I do plan to perhaps sew it in place later, but with the way the bag is designed with the heavy interfacing in between the flap layers, I can't really do that especially now that the clear vinyl is in the way. Next time I attempt it I'll probably try to engineer it better. Or I can make an insert to put in with the loops.

YUKIMURA IS BAE too bad he's the least popular male character in the game and everyone forgets he exists but that's OK LOL

Kirenisa (1 anno/i fa) #22864923awe those are so cute, that's awesome! makes me want to try making one of these.. I see them online but I don't know I feel like I'd be bad at it.. but these look awesome! +o+
I dunno, you can still give it a shot? Though it might just be easier to buy a clear vinyl bag and put a tote bag in it. A few of my friends made itabags this way! But I don't really have enough merch of a character to justify a tote, thus why I made an itaclutch. I might go the full itabag route soon though, I went on a Surugaya binge and bought a bunch of merch of Keith Goodman/Sky High from Tiger & Bunny and it might just be enough to do a nice itabag!
