Anime-Island Down+Refunding

Anime-Island had started refunding payments for orders and pre-orders yesterday - not just ones where people have filed disputes.

Before that, their site hadn't been updated for a while, their Amazon store was empty, they weren't shipping in-stock orders or charging for pre-orders which were expected to come into stock, their Facebook page hadn't been updated, and (according to a user in the US) their phone number was out of services. Their Facebook page is now gone, and their site is down.

If you have any orders or pre-orders with Anime-Island, I suggest you either file disputes with PayPal, and attempt to initiate chargebacks on any payments using a credit card which are now outside PayPal's claim limit, before attempting to secure pre-orders for your figures elsewhere.

Edit:

Good advice if you have pre-orders you haven't been refunded for yet.

SamanthaFTry emailing them for older orders to be refunded, I emailed them last night with some order numbers and asked to be refunded (seeing as they refunded a bunch of other customers and my newer ones were refunded thru Amazon, maybe they would do the older ones thru PayPal also), they just refunded a few thru PayPal an hour or so ago, I received an email from PayPal stating so. I got 3 refund notifications out of the 5 older ones I had asked about. I am hoping they can refund the rest. Now just have to wait for PayPal to put the money back to try and find the figures elsewhere.

Saw that coming, especially after MH Toyshop shut down earlier this year. AI's service has been abysmal for ages. But it still super sucks because I had several preorders with them...

Well, time to contact paypal and my bank!

Edit: After contacting them about all my open preorders and stewing on it for a bit, I'm pissed. I had 3 of the Love Live Alter figures on order with them, and now pre-orders are closed everywhere I'm looking. Guess I'll just be buying from reliable Japanese shops from now on, because it seems like these American shops can't manage themselves at all.

rain_drops (1 mese/i fa) #29524695Regrettably, I can almost guarantee they won't respond. I tried back in September and many others made an attempt as well. I followed this thread for a while and unfortunately I don't recall seeing anyone post about receiving a response. :/ Yeah that's my primary concern that it appears no one has gotten responds from them. I opened the dispute with Paypal and says they will give Anime-Island until Dec 17 to respond to the claim made in the case. So I guess it's probably best that I opened the dispute ASAP since it appears Paypal is giving them a window to respond regardless for me. Thanks for responding to my concern though! I really appreciate it!

Azaizer (1 mese/i fa) #29524381Hmmm perhaps you're right. I probably should just file with Paypal immediately and not even give them a courtesy considering I was told NOTHING by AI they were closing down and that was MONTHS ago! I should do it just to be on the safe side.

rain_drops (1 mese/i fa) #29524213I would recommend filing a dispute as quickly as you can, especially since the deadline is approaching. Paypal is unforgiving when it comes to the 180 day rule. I used Paypal Credit for an order in March and lost close to $200 because I was a couple of weeks outside their timeframe. I did recover $36 from a July order though. If you used a third party card or bank account linked through Paypal your options may be more flexible. Others have suggested contacting the bank directly should that be the case, but you should be in great shape since we haven't reached the end of December yet. Hmmm perhaps you're right. Azaizer (1 mese/i fa) #29523011Wow I heard they shut down in September! I've yet to hear anything from Anime-Island AT ALL about this evening happening! I just now found out through a friend! I have one outstanding order with them for 1 figure but they have not refunded me anything.
I paid through Paypal and I am still within the 180 days dispute until the end of December 31. Should I even bother contacting Anime-Island and wait for a response or just immediately file a dispute first? I already wrote Anime-Island and told them they would have 1 week to comply before I proceed to filing a Paypal Dispute but wondering what others have had to go through with this situation.

ITEM #498420, ITEM #532059, and ITEM #198354 were supposed to be my first non-Beach-Queen scales and my first Figma, respectively (and my first figures not purchased from an MFC or eBay seller). I paid them all in full at A-I and never got any of them. At this point in the game, though, I've figured it's just ~$300+ I'm never getting back. A-I didn't defraud me (that would require intent), and my credit/debit card company didn't do anything wrong to which they would owe me any money. I just made an investment that didn't pan out. Maybe I'm just being lazy, but that's how I'm looking at it for now.

Guys come on, I am out $200. If you have somehow resolved getting your money back with paypal, especially past 180 days, say something. I have made complaints to some FBI fraud thing, BBB, paypal, and my bank in hopes of them trying to bring justice to them. If you got any other place to make formal complaints to them or had a way to get your money back, say something.

So I open a dispute with Chase about it, and lost the dispute. I payed through Paypal that used a payment method linked to my bank account. I came across the Visa Chargeback Code 30 and thought I will give it another wack. I was talking about my plight again and this one had to pause a few times to write a few things down, I guess my previous person was not thorough taking note. I tried to ask them to look at it from the Visa Charge back Code 30 but the person kept steering me to other things and ultimately said its up to the investigators to come to a ruling. More than likely the person I talked to didnt know about Code 30 and I doubt they would apply Code 30 to the dispute this time around. This Visa charge back Code 30 is the best lead I got to get my money back so in the likely chance I lose the dispute again, since Chase rather keep money than lose money, should I actually go to a chase bank and talk to someone?
