Goodsmile showed off the "Sakura Stars Bless You" figure last year at Anime Expo but I initially didn't want to buy it because I thought I didn't have space. After moving to a new apartment earlier this year and after I saw a bunch of people starting to post it online I sort of wanted it. Now I didn't get on the amazing deal people got from preordering off of Goodsmile with free shipping but I found a relatively good deal in the end.
I got it 2 weeks ago and started to think of where to put it. It wouldn't fit into a standard detolf or the glass case I have without modification. Looking at the figure in real life of how amazing it looked, I decided to have it displayed on its own.
Looking online for cases there was another mfc member posted a Chinese site of acrylic cases with lights and decals here: item.taobao.com.... It looked amazing but it wasn't glass and I would have to figure out how to import etc. I'm sure it wouldn't be hard but I rather get glass. At the size of this figure, there wasn't anything you can find without going custom. Looking at a few sites you can tell that this wasn't getting any cheaper. Looking through mfc and reddit animefigures, I could not find a recommendation for a glass case.
I then began searching online, compared a few sites and found a site by Perfect Cases. I didn't really find any reviews around the internet so for science I picked one up of the size of 14x14x20 (inches). The site allows various sizes with mirror bottom/back and custom engraving on the glass. I ordered one with felt bottom, no mirrors and "Sakura Konomoto, Stars Bless You 1/7" (I don't care if the name is "backwards") as the engraving and waited two weeks.
Finally it came!
Package arrived and unboxing the glass and base from the large (light) box. (Sorry for the messy kitchen table in the photos.)
You can see that the bottom is made from wood and has a felt material over (which is a little extra). The glass itself was good although it had a few scratches on it only visible by direct light. The glass I think is held up by glue on all 5 sides.
You would lift up the glass from the base and put the figure in (Sakura is off to the back).
Here it is next to Sakura :)
And then inside with the side views first
Now I place it where I plan to put it, in the living room next to my speaker setup on the (gigantic) sub.
And finally the front photo (again).
This isn't really a review but more of my experience with Perfect Cases. I think they did a great job for the case (except the small scratches). The only issue is that communication was pretty poor but the glass is great and you can customize pretty much a lot of the case itself such as the engraving, base wood color, glass size, mirror options and the felt color. It took a week to get the shipping notification and it wasn't even emailed to me, I had to check my account on their site for it. I am not sure if I will order another case only because of the lack of space (most large figures site on my desk anyways). The downside is the price and at this price you could get 2 or maybe 3 detolfs. ~$180 for the case (with coupon after tax) and $50 for the shipping (ouch). Unfortunately this was probably the cheapest case I can find in USA (I am sure there are probably cheaper places out there...).
From here I still deciding how to light up the figure, maybe an LED strip along the bottom, or sides or even top. I plan to add some decals on it and maybe a background similar to the acrylic case from Taobao. If anyone has ideas about lighting I would be interested in it.
I hope this post can help decide if people would go for a glass case (and how ever expensive they are). I have no regrets and I absolutely love the glass around her and I can't wait to add lighting soon. Thank you for reading this, till next time.
