Code Geass Lelouch & Suzaku 1/8 scale G.E.M ReviewCode Geass Lelouch & Suzaku 1/8 scale G.E.M Review

Hello everyone! This is my first time reviewing a figure, so please be gentle with me and what better to pick than the newly released Code Geass 1/8 scale of Kururugi Suzaku & Lelouch Lamperouge by MegaHouse! The sculpt is based off a CLAMP illustration. If you haven't watched Code Geass, now is the perfect time to start as a third season is coming soon after all these years! The G.E.M Line is one of my favourite series, I love these characters, so I had high expectations which were *mostly* met!

Packaging 5/10
Wow, what did the box do to you, you may ask? In my humble opinion, this is THE FLIMSIEST BOX in my ENTIRE COLLECTION. Seriously, this absolutely cannot be overstated. The cardboard is only 1mm thick. It also has no plastic window to see the figure, and in my experience when this is the case eg ITEM #287808 the box is usually very sturdy. This is the inside and the bottom with the blister removed. Nothing, not even a standout sheet so you can display them with the wings that were so important to the source material picture/1754145...
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Solarstormflare1523753017.jpeg That being said, the outside is beautifully done.

Look at that lovely big scratch on my brand new box. This is why I usually buy pre owned, because I have the worst luck when it comes to new items. No idea how it got there with the tissue paper and MegaTrea Shop box to protect it. I like how each side has a picture of one of the boys.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Solarstormflare1523752916.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Solarstormflare1523752950.jpeg

Nice side view of the boys on the back, with all the usual information. The bottom of the box is completely black.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Solarstormflare1523761619.jpeg Even with these instructions, it still took me almost three hours to assemble this figure. This may just be me being slow, though. Others have also complained of the difficulty of assembly, but even after translating the text it only says things along the lines of "Attach Suzaku head to body" It would have really helped if it was in colour, but that's obviously too much to ask of a 27,000 yen figure. Also, I had to bend Lelouch's leg apart a bit to get him firmly on his pole. In the future I'd recommend taking off his back leg first. He also won't go quite all the way onto his posts. I dread dissembling them when I move home from uni because to pull off their heads without breaking the chain I'd probably need anouther set of hands... A problem for future me.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Solarstormflare1523761556.jpeg

The blister is nice and compact, with tape holding it together.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Solarstormflare1523761590.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Solarstormflare1523761570.jpeg I was suprised to find the heads were detatchable, although in hindsight I probably should have seen it coming. If you know me, you’ll know I absolutely LOVE head swap shenanigans. being careful not to damage them of course Scales are harder to have fun "playing" with than nendoroids and figmas, but seeing heads on different bodies always make me laugh. These are all my figures who have sported different heads to their own off the top of my head Pun not on purpose View spoilerHide spoilerITEM #109860

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Solarstormflare1523752036.jpeg Suzaku’s neck hole is narrower than Lelouch's though, so less fun to be had there.
Bonus points if the head stays on without you having to hold it therehttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Solarstormflare1523752177.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Solarstormflare1523752141.jpeg Their heads are absolutely beautiful. No complaints here. The lip gloss is a nice touch. The earring chain is made of real metal. There's a few small plastic blobs on the top bits, but nothing major. It's also sturdy enough that you can hold only one head and the chain will support the other. Not that I recommend this of course, but it happened to me a few times during assembly. Unfortunately the heads require a LOT of force to go in properly, and even then there is still a really obvious gap when viewed from above, especially with Suzaku. Hair shading is nice, and the ends are not as deadly pointy as ITEM #166704.

Base 7/10 The details are all slightly raised, not just painted on. It's the right height too, at approx 1 cm. The circular shape doesn't draw attention away from the figures. The surface is shiny too
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Solarstormflare1523751747.jpegThe bottom has copyright details and a few support lines.https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Solarstormflare1523752073.jpeg I would have rated it higher, except mine came with several paint splotches which is a little annoyinghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Solarstormflare1523751784.jpeg

Posing 10/10
What can I say? They look great from every angle! Lelouch is posing a little differently to Suzaku which helps with the basic standing poses.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Solarstormflare1523751632.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Solarstormflare1523751593.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Solarstormflare1523751555.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Solarstormflare1523751518.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Solarstormflare1523751474.jpegSorry about the backdrop, becuase of their different colour schemes I couldn't decide whether they looked better with white or black backgrounds so I kind of did both
Sculpting 10/10 The sculptor for this figure also did the sculpt for my favourite figure of all time ITEM #518142 and honestly they did an amazing job in both cases. I love you Imai Yuu! They've only done this, Lavi and ITEM #520669 but they should do more, they're sooo good at sculpting! All the details are absolutely on point. Extra points for all the frills! My only nitpick is Lelouch's pinky finger which is too skinny at the top and thus looks quite weird. https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Solarstormflare1523751855.jpeg
Also, I'm not sure exactly what the cords are made off, but they have the same consistency as string and thus I had to use tags to try and get them to sit the same way as in the stock images, with mixed results.https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Solarstormflare1523751341.jpeg
Painting 7.5/10https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Solarstormflare1523751939.jpeg
Painting is mostly good. Some of the line work is quite sloppy though, with a few cases of paint being in places it wasn't supposed to be https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Solarstormflare1523751893.jpeg
Most of the reviews I've read have panty shots, so here's one of Lelouch. View spoilerHide spoilerhttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Solarstormflare1523752101.jpeg Not much to see, lol!

Overall Thoughts and Enjoyment 9.5/10
This is definitely one of the highlights of my collection. I've been awaiting this day since this figure was announced, and I held off all the other scales of these characters for this, although I'm now tempted to get more scales since this one is very nice. I know of the circa 150 people on mfc who ordered this, most were very upset that the wings in the illustration were not included. I totally understand this, however personally I do not mind as I prefer more realistically styled wings.https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Solarstormflare1523752319.jpeg The rest of the piece totally suits my aesthetic though! At the time of writing, they are still available for their retail price, however being limited and exclusive I will be surprised if their price doesn't rise soon. However, 27,000 yen is quite steep.
After shipping, it cost me 343.60 aud from Nippon Yassan www.nippon-yasa.... That's around 171 per figure. While Lelouch is worth that price to me, I think Suzaku doesn't quite measure up. Because his outfit is mostly white, the layering effect of his petticoat thing is almost lost. I would have prefered it to be gold, honestly, if only to up the contrast.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/Solarstormflare1523752258.jpeg
Interesting fact; Lelouch needs the base to stand up, but Suzaku can stand stable and fine by himself. I wonder what that says about their relationship. Anyway, overall despite the price which could definitely be more in the 25,000 range, I would still recommend them. I've found them a good spot in my detolf, but they look good from neutral angles, above and below, which is unusual. Also, since they are standing back to back I wouldn't be surprised by paint transfers in the future.

I can't afford EMS shipping in general, so this is the first time I've been the first to review something! Usually I'm beaten to the punch and then I lose motivation. Thanks so much for reading! I really appreciate it! Please comment any tips for next time/and or your thoughts on this figure! Also please forgive my phone camera, it's alright in general but I don't have anything better right nowITEM #574524

Really strange decision Megahouse made with the box. For a pricey figure, I would expect much more. I also prefer Lelouch solo hence why i didn't order this set. Your review was informative! :)

- I have the same exact problem with both their heads. You would think that they would use a sturdier plastic with a more precise cut instead of some filmsy rubber/plastic. Grrrrrr

As sad as it is, I'm glad it wasn't just mine ;;

atunafish (5 mese/i fa) #32659120this figure is sooo gorgeous!! and im surprised that the box is so filmsy, for a figure with so many thin, fragile parts. thankfully the blister is compact, properly hold everything together!
thanks for the detailed review and bonus panty shot xD

You are very welcome! I was shocked too because all my other recent megahouse boxes haven't been like this? Hopefully it's not indicative of a new trend...

blackmoongirl (5 mese/i fa) #32641969So awesome *A* If I wasn't taking a break from work, I would ordered them easy. Alas, I'll have to look for them in the aftermarket once school's over. =A=
Happy hunting! I'm sure you'll find them eventually. That's a sensible decision I was too silly to make...
CaptainZ (5 mese/i fa) #32637765Not too bad for a Megahouse figure
Almost like the good ol'days

I understand where you are coming from but so far all my megahouse figs have been pretty good!

jazzylin (5 mese/i fa) #32635687Thanks for the review! Mines waiting for me at the post office, Its been a roller coaster of emotions since I ordered it and I'm can't wait to have it on my shelf so it can be over lol! Thank you! Yes! Good luck with the assembly!

Very nice review! I was pretty conflicted and ended up passing on their preorders. I absolutely hate figures with difficult assembly so I'm glad I missed out on that, but they look so gorgeous together so I have a bit of regret!

The sculpt looks wonderful, aside from the few minor issues you mentioned. Makes me want to go rewatch Code Geass <3
