Rem Shiromuku Ver. by FuRyu F:NEX

Hello MFC, this is a quick review on Rem Shiromuku Ver. by FuRyu F:NEX. It was not my initial intention to write a review on this figure so I will cover the box/packaging briefly since I have already unpacked it.

Too long to read? Skip to the bottom for the overall verdict.

BOX/PACKAGING

The box's 3 sizes are L32 x W29 x H39(cm). Rather large for a 1/7 scale, had to upgrade to ship via EMS at 3200 grams. There is an instruction slip inside on how to assemble Rem. Rem was well-packed, I have received mine without any scuffs or major defects.

ASSEMBLY/POSING

The figure is only supported by 1 peg (on Rem's foot) fitted into the base. It is relatively easy to slot the umbrella into her hands. There is a sweet spot where the wataboshi headpiece can set on the head.

SCULPTING

Honestly, the sculpt is not that exciting. 80% of the figure is about the intricate details on the kimono. The details on the hair is excellent though.

BASE

The base is a bright red with gold threading, which colour also coincides with the underside of the kimono. Personally, I would have preferred some contrast of the colours.

PAINTWORK

The paintwork is the biggest redeeming factor which makes this figure worth the buy.
The kimono itself has two layers. The inner layer has a shade of pearl white. The outer layer has a mix of white, and a yellowish-tinted white, to give gradient to the kimono.

There is also darker red to account for the shadows from the folds in the kimono.

CONCULSION/ENJOYMENT

A Japanese bride traditionally wears a white dress and a special white headpiece known as "wataboshi". In Japan white traditionally symbolizes death. In context of wedding white symbolizes the end of one living as single person and the start of new life in marriage. A bride wears white kimono called "shiromuku". In Japanese word "shiro" means white and "muku" means pure. Shiromuku kimono is worn without "obi" over white "kakeshita" wedding kimono. Kakeshita kimono includes patterns with different symbols like for example cranes. Cranes are birds where a couple stays together for life. [ Source: weddings.tradit...]

The entirety of the figure seeks to create harmony in its design and paintwork by its choice of colours and details of the kimono. The lack of contrast in colour of the kimono underside and the base is not by mistake, but well-thought to minimise the disruption of the harmony.

The large size of this 1/7 scale and its colour gradient also adds to the realism of the figure. The overall impression made was two-fold: from afar, beautiful Rem in pure bliss; on close inspection, minute and intricate details on the kimono, and Rem herself.

No doubt, Rem fanatics may find it a waste to cover her face with a wataboshi. However, with or without the wataboshi, there is no doubt indeed Rem looks her best on her important day.

FuRyu F:NEX

From my understanding, FuRyu makes plenty of prize figures, while F:NEX seems to be a rather new product line to capitalise the premium scale segment. In my opinion, this figure itself is a great piece of work which have brilliantly conveyed the thoughts of the sculpter and paint artists. Personally, I would be looking forward to FuRyu F:NEX's future works as well.

MY THANKS

Thanks for reading the entirety of the review. Please share your thoughts on the figure regardless if you have bought it.

Thank you! This review is so helpful and detailed. From the packaging to the base, everything was described, so anyone interested can know beforehand how to handle the figure. All of my questions have been answered so I'll be preordering the variant soon. :D

kururin1 anno/i fa#58227096Oooh, Rem looks very elegant here! I'm surprised at all the detail work. I think I prefer her with the hood on - it's like she's quickly and bashfully glancing at Subaru her groom as they take a walk after the wedding ceremony. <3
I wonder if the other upcoming F:NEX figures will turn out this nicely? Hopefully so! But nice review - it was short, simple, and to the point. I liked it!

Thank you for the encouragement. I took longer than expected to write this review.. so it wasn't a quick review like I hoped. I forgot to talk about the price as well as how I came to the scores.. but thankfully people still liked it.

She looks incredible! It seems like a hard choice whether to use her wataboshi or not since it's great seeing all of her face. I would have picked her up had she not been region restricted ;_;

illumi4Love1 anno/i fa#58177619Also maybe you can help me understand as a non-Re:Zero viewer why Rem is so heavily preferred over her sister? Or at least marketed more.
Rem becomes close with the MC, Subaru, while her sister, Ram, does not. Rem also got a lot more screen time, even overshadowing the real main heroine, Emilia.

The attention to detail on the kimono is incredible, I'm also glad and surprised that this is a Furyu figure, as I heard mixed things about the their sculpts.

Also maybe you can help me understand as a non-Re:Zero viewer why Rem is so heavily preferred over her sister? Or at least marketed more.

Devastator0011 anno/i fa#58175088How's the feel of the material for you? I've recently gotten ITEM #672009 and love her but the material on some of her parts (Mainly her dress) remind me of the softer PVC you'd find on prize figures (Not that I mind too much just the feel threw me off initally) XD

Not sure what is meant by the softer PVC, since I don't collect prize figures. But the kimono for this Rem is a shell-type of hard, more brittle than soft I would say.
