I know I am not the only one who gets annoyed by this, but when GoodSmile has a prototype for a nendoroid, fully painted and ready to go, but then doesn't show them to the light of day for another 3-12 months? I understand there's an order to them and they have pre-planed release dates, but do they? I seen nendoroids pop up on my social media with next day pre-orders starting all the time. Never having seen them since wonderfest and sometimes not even then, just popping up out of nowhere. I am waiting for the Hanako-kun nendoroid as if I was waiting for my death sentence date, but he hasn't returned at all, instead nendoroids that haven't even been painted at the same time of his debut are already out for pre-order, some already been closed!
I understand 100% that COVID is playing a part in this and that's not what I am complaining about, it's more like why GoodSmile likes to play with my heart!!(lol). I was wondering if other people feel the same way?

Honestly, if I were the license/rights holder to Hanako-kun and I saw that nendoroid, I wouldn't be approving it either unless some changes were made to it, lmao. In my opinion, that prototype is rather... bleh. He's not cute enough. There were some changes made by users posted in the comments that looked way better.

But for a more generalized answer, I don't have anything to add other than I agree with the other responses - all of those copyright things probably play a huge role in it.

Yep...STILL waiting for the Alice Synthesis Thirty Figma that was announced forever ago and still hasn’t come out. Not even an unpainted prototype. Meanwhile Kirito, Eugeo, and dozens of niche Fate characters have come out since. ~sigh

Like others said its the rights-holders that do this and not GSC, but in Hanako's case especially I know I saw quite a few people complained about how he looked (I also thought he looked really weird) so he could also be undergoing revisions on top of everything else. (Maybe thats wishful thinking on my part though)

As to why nendo's take forever to come out in some cases, as has been pointed out here many times it's right's holders decision making. The manu may be ready to go, but licensed products need all stakeholders to be happy in order to proceed.

As to why some nendo's come out of nowhere, it's because they're NENDO'S. Simple, repetitive shapes that can be reused ad infinitum for very cheap. If the right's holders aren't picky and simply want a licensed product out now, GS can and will make it happen.

Kiz-xo4 mese/i fa#77696776whatever has the biggest tits or is the most popular gets first release, anything else (even if its still super popular) is pushed to the back.
Tits, Miku and Fate have main priority,

Tbh, I don't pay close attention to nendoroid releases but I haven't seen that be the case. ITEM #945945 was announced at wonfes, painted super quickly, and released for pre-order not long after. ITEM #978133 was just randomly announced already finished and put up for PO right away. Neither of those are mega popular or have boob-appeal.
I think licensor approval, and in-the-moment hype, are probably the major factors.

Tell me about it. I'm still waiting on 3 of the 5 Oda Non bunnies from BINDing, one of their NSFW brands/partners. These were announced and shown as prototypes almost three years ago, with two of them released shortly after. Since then, no news on the other 3 figures from that set :(

See picture/1803410... (NSFW, obviously)

In the end there might be any number of reasons for these delays. Issues with licensing or approval from licensing partners being only one of many. Maybe they monitored post-announcement interest in that figure and it was way lower than expected, putting that figure further down the priority list compared to the more popular ones.

Nendoroid Reinhardt anyone?

It's all licensing. They can get it's painted and ready to go, but then have to get it approved by the license holder. Who may reject it, ask for changes, or need revisions, then it all has to get sent back and reviewed again once done. Which can keep the cycle going and going and going....
