MAY 2019-MARCH 2020 LOOT

So I haven't done one of these in a while! X'D Which is sorta understandable since I took a huge break from collecting and only sort of got back into it this year. This is mostly a manga-heavy loot, though - not much in the figures department. Most of my figures are coming later this year.

And yes, I was a just a tad bit excessive with buying manga. Just a tad. All of these must have cost at least the equivalent of 6-8 Alter scales thanks to Kinokuniya's jacked up prices - but hey, at least they treat me like a VIP there, so I'm pretty pleased with buying from them X'D (plus I've got nowhere else to buy manga from, and getting them online myself is a hassle. I don't want to lug around a 50KG box from the post office every time).

The figures I bought in 2019 were mostly preorders that I still wanted to fulfill. I think there was about 5 months (May-September) that I didn't buy any figures. And instead, I spent that money on... well, manga. X'D Collecting manga can get just as expensive as figures, but I feel like it's worth it because I only get manga of series I really like and do read over and over again. I started picking up with collecting around Jan 2020 again, because I wanted to buy prize figures to display at my office and... well, I pretty much got sucker-punched back into the hobby. X'D

Also, I apologize for the shitty quality of most of the pictures. I just took them with my phone super quickly, because... well, I just wanted to do this post on a whim. X'D

And just a warning that this is very rambly and picture heavy!

FIGURES
I'm not going to divide these by month because I'm too lazy to pull up my AmiAmi order history. X'D This is a very low-effort blog, mostly for my own reference, just to see what I bought during my figure collecting break.

As I've mentioned, there were no figures from around May-Sep, so all of these were bought within Oct 2019-Feb 2020.

Also, all of them are from AmiAmi unless mentioned otherwise.

First up, my presh TouRabu boys. Hachisuka is my third favorite; Mutsunokami is of course, the ultimate swordboi, my beloved. I was about to lose hope of him ever getting a nendoroid, but it finally freaking happened! Of course, even when I was on a break, there was NO way I was going to miss preordering him and Hachisuka. I absolutely adore both of them. <3

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50112955802_03786eb0a7.jpg
We have some sportsbois in the house! I absolutely loved Kuroko no Basket when I finished it in the beginning of 2019, and so of course I couldn't resist ordering these three, who are actually my OT3. Kuroko's Basketball? More like Kuroko's Harem, lmfao. I didn't like any of the other boys so much, so I didn't end up buying them. I mean, it's not like I hate them, but I just don't like them enough to justify adding them to my collection. Maybe someday, if I find that I want them after all.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50112789637_5c3cd4e7fd.jpg
Yes, I have them displayed like this, and yes, I finally caved and bought Snow Miku 2013 just to create this scene. Do I regret it? Heck no.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50112789447_6bf70996b5.jpg
This is how said Miku is displayed. X'D She has actually been on my wishlist since 2014, but her high aftermarket prices pretty much never gave me a justification to cave in and buy her... until now. X'D

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50112555456_8ca7560440.jpg
I actually also bought this nendo for the sake of using his extra body for Eiji X'DDDD I don't even know him. I mean, it isn't a problem since he does fit my aesthetic tastes quite nicely and conveniently as well, and he's actually one of my favorite nendos aesthetic-wise, especially when he's posed in his drunkard state like this :'D Also, I am well aware that his hakama isn't exactly very wedding-esque, but this was the closest hakama-wearing nendoroid that I could find that didn't require customizing. I was considering Hishida Shunsou's, but he hadn't popped up on AmiAmi preowned for a while and I was getting impatient; plus his colors were too light for a wedding hakama (which, from what I understand, is usually black for the groom). Plus, this guy popped up for preorder at the same time I was looking for a hakama for Eiji, so I thought why the heck not.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50111985473_fb2e4e81b1.jpg
Another guy I knew nothing about but caved in and bought anyway because he ticked all my aesthetic tastes. I've been really getting into collecting for aesthetics as well this year (hence ordering prize figures). I've yet to take him out of the box though, oops. I'm in the process of redecorating and culling clutter in my room right now, including the displays, so I haven't found a suitable place for him.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50112955552_d36b77b4e9.jpg
The beginning of my prize figure craze. These two will always hold a special place in my heart. <3 Plus, this figure is stunning especially for a prize figure! Furyu is really one of the best companies to produce prize figures, in my opinion.

It was actually quite a gamble getting Ciel. I wasn't sure if he was the version that would come with a base for Sebastian or not because AmiAmi preowned didn't specify; luckily, I did get the base. Unfortunately, that meant he was too big for the box that gets delivered to my office, so he had to wait for more than a month to be picked up at the post office because I couldn't go there freely - it's currently closed on Saturdays due to the COVID-19 situation, argh. And with it being 2 hours away from my house (back and forth), there was no way to get there during the weekday as I was still teaching even from home.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50112726546_3080cf6ce4.jpg
Yet another Fate figure I'd been eyeing for a while. I really love her hakama and just everything about her fits my aesthetic. She normally stands proudly on my office desk, but I had to bring her (and Norman) home as I didn't want to just leave them in my office. TvT

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50112955202_d690287c1d.jpg
And yep, here's Norman. After hunting Ray down for 9000 years, he's also finally coming in the mail - in my huge July order. Hopefully I can have them posed together in my office soon.

Ah, these two are so, so precious to me. Especially Sugawara. You can read about his adventures here, but he is definitely a grail I will never, EVER give up. X'D

I can't thank READROSE enough for her efforts to get Sugawara to me. :'D And also thank you to TYCHORC for selling Daichi to me despite their apprehensions shipping overseas. Both of you contributed to me finally getting my grails and I am very grateful <3

Tanjiro is just such an amazing character and I just. I love my son so much, okay. ToT I want everything in my life to be decked in his likeness, so I bought a bunch of things I'll be using/wearing. Also planning to have a mini Tanjiro shrine on my desk when his figures come, so I bought the acrylic stand and nitotan to go there when I set it up after everything comes.

Other miscellaneous stuff I bought. I actually use the Banana Fish bag as a shopping bag a lot and it is so useful! Especially since you can't get plastic bags from most places here (you have to pay for it or bring your own bag). It was definitely useful whenever I had to lug like 20 volumes of manga home, that's for sure. X'D I don't use the Banana Fish calendar as a calendar either - rather, I've ripped out all the pictures, cut out the dates (they were thankfully printed in very small font on the bottom of the page - I think they damn well knew fans weren't going to use that calendar as a calendar lmao), and put the pictures up on my wall. They are just so beautiful and my heart still hurts. I'll definitely post much better pictures when I finally do my updated room tour sometime in the future when I finish redecorating, haha.

MANGA

BL HAUL

It's no secret that I am a Fujoshi(t) and I love BL. Well, certain kinds of BL irk me and not everything tickles my fancy, and I acknowledge that it's a problematic genre in general - but the hidden gems and guilty pleasures amongst them still make it so worth it, in my opinion. I am learning Japanese for the sole purpose of being able to read, understand, and maybe one day even translate BL manga. :'D

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50111989578_5c4dd6089f.jpg
But until that day comes, (overpriced) English manga will have to do. These are pretty much the straggler/standalone volumes to complete my collection. That Blue Sky Feeling isn't "true" BL per se, it's actually not marketed as such, but it's a beautiful manga that really deals with the concept of homosexuality and all that. Highly recommended. Blue Morning is also another one that breaks common BL tropes, and the plot is beautiful. Our Dining Table has always been a favorite of mine, and when I heard that it was getting officially translated, of course I purchased an official copy! I think I've re-read it about 5 times since getting the manga, haha.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50112558896_9170999d6e.jpg
Remaining volumes of one of my most favorite BL, Hitorijime My Hero, released so far. Unfortunately vol. 7 hasn't arrived at Kinokuniya yet so I haven't read it. I'm so excited though.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50111989428_7d2356dd6d.jpg
This one is, again, not really true BL - but it does deal with the concept of homosexuality in general. Trans, bisexuals, lesbians - all of them are covered here, and definitely in a very tasteful and eye-opening way. I pretty much cried at the ending, too. It's a really beautiful manga that's worth a read, even if you're not into the whole LGBT theme.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50112558756_dfeabcdacb.jpg
Yes, you read that damn right. This is shounen-ai. It's BL. Don't be fooled by the children's book-esque cover/art. It's really cute and wholesome too.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50112557981_c7ea5bb5f1.jpg
I am pretty sure everybody knows of this awesome BL anime by now. I'm reading the manga, slowly, as the volumes trickle in. These two are the only ones that have arrived so far. I really do tend to try and follow official English releases rather than reading scanlations whenever I can which is why I'm always super late into the game, but it's my way of supporting the industry.

NON-BL MANGA

I have a very diverse taste in manga and I will pretty much read anything and everything as long as it piques my interest. What I do tend to do is to read a "preview" of a manga online via scanlations, just to see if it's worth spending my money on (with each volume at around USD 12.5-18.5 each, I can't afford to buy manga on a whim and then pretty much lose that money if it turned out to be not my taste after all), and then proceed to buy/order it. I tend to read around 1-1.5 volumes just to see if it's really to my taste; I can usually get the feeling that I will like a manga at around 4-5 chapters, though (which is, incidentally, around one volume depending on how long/detailed the chapters are). Sometimes I also browse my local Kinokuniya, try out a volume or two, and then buy the series if I end up liking it. And yes, I do still buy the volumes that I read online - since I also collect manga, I'm a completionist with my favorite series.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50112554856_940fdcb810.jpg
Who am I. I actually went right damn ahead and bought a shoujo romance manga. That's a genre I tend to actively avoid because I just hate romance in general (unless it's BL). But this one just captivated me from the first chapter, and I am absolutely in love with it. Well, maybe not so much with Sari because she's the typical damsel in distress type of character (so far, anyway - I've only read the first 2 volumes so far) who somehow succeeds in everything anyway because determination or some shit, but in my opinion Leo and the other characters in the book really make the story worth reading.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50112791347_e31d29f11a.jpg
Some series that I only have 1 volume of so far, because they've just been translated into English and the rest of the volumes are in the publication process. And I love every single one of them. That stray Black Butler Vol. 6 is just me FINALLY getting around to buying the physical volumes little by little (pretty much like 1-2 volumes per trip to Kinokuniya, so I don't rack a $300+ bill in one go because I'm still missing volumes 7-28, plus ones that are currently publishing). I used to follow the scanlation releases religiously once upon a time and I never bothered to buy the physical copies because I was a poor high school student back then, but I stopped right after the Green Witch arc ended for some reason and I wanna get back into it again, so might as well do that by buying the English releases. And since it's been years since I last read this, I might as well refresh my mind and start from the very beginning.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50111988673_4fe0709b64.jpg
The rest of School Live! (Vol. 12, last volume, will be released sometime this year and I'll get it then - plus it got greenlighted for a sequel!) and Promised Neverland released in English so far. Still waiting on vol. 15, which I already ordered. No spoilers please, I know it's ended already but I'm following the English release so I'm super late!

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50112557611_1d1962b871.jpg
I absolutely love both of these. The Way of the Househusband is HILARIOUS. Also, Skullface Bookseller Honda-san is a really interesting non-fiction dive into the bookstore industry. I definitely appreciate Kinokuniya a lot more after this! :'D

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50112790402_f22a381ce0.jpg
This is my ABSOLUTE favorite manga so far. Everything from the lore, the plot, the characters, the art, the message of the story... Everything is just so BEAUTIFUL. Highly recommended, so worth every single penny I spent on this series. Can't wait for Vol. 4! Though I definitely have to read volume 3 first. Work has been eating up too much of my time TvT

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50112557886_7e686785f2.jpg
Another manga that is so criminally underrated in my opinion. I love the hilarity, the gags, the youkai stuff, and even the overarching plot underneath a seemingly lighthearted slice-of-life manga. For those who love youkai (and BL undertones, coughcough), this is definitely a must-read.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50111987693_279c116b17.jpg
Definitely weird to group these two polar opposites in terms of themes and plots together, but I didn't want to take a separate picture for 2 volumes of Versailles of the Dead. X'D Both are, again, highly recommended. Everything in my list is highly recommended otherwise I wouldn't have spent a fortune on them X'D

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50112789977_7223abc2dd.jpg
And last but not the least, OF COURSE I picked up Demon Slayer. Again, no spoilers please - I've only read volume 1 so far and haven't caught up with anything not covered in the anime. TvT

GRAND TOTAL: 17 figures, 75 media (manga/artbook), 11 merch
While 17 figures may still seem sizeable especially for someone who was on a figure collecting break, back when I was in a frenzy this was the number of figures I had for a month - in fact, there were some months where I had more than 17 figures. I'd say 17 figures in a span of 10 months is a pretty good number :D I definitely went c r a z y with manga though, that's for sure - and that's definitely where my money went instead, but it was all so, SO worth it. <3

Thanks for reading if you've made it this far! X'D

dandybaby20 giorno/i fa#80439589Haha, can most definitely relate!
I hope so too. And yeah, I'm super keen to see how Haru and Aki's relationship develops. (✧ω✧)
BL undertones are totes my jam as well, have bookmarked those two. I'm not much of a manga reader these days but I would make an exception for BL... lmaoooo
Yup I got Suga in the end, they re-shipped him using DHL. All up, from the time I ordered him to the time I finally received him was a little over 6 weeks! (⊙_⊙)
Daichi is sold out on TOM now. I have alerts set up on Mandarake, so fingers crossed. Will probably be a case of 'right place, right time' like it was with Yato.

I really hope we get a season 2 of Given though. Like, I haven't gotten past volume 1 of the manga unfortunately, but the ending of the anime hinted that Mafuyu will compose a song for Ritsuka - I can't wait to hear it omggg. I pretty much bawled my eyes out the first time I listened to Fuyu no Hanashi lmao. I could feel Mafuyu's pain in his voice ToT

BL undertones are actually sth I prefer rather than outright BL because most of the time, their relationship and the dynamics surrounding it are so beautiful TvT Like, pretty much, Yuuri and Victor. Since YoI isn't explicitly labeled shounen-ai or yaoi I can still consider it BL undertones lmao. Or Ash and Eiji. Or Nezumi and Shion. Or Makoto and Haruka. Or Richard and Seigi (from The Case Files of Jeweler Richard). The possibilities are endless. X'D lmk when you've read them so we can derp together hahahaha XD

6 weeks!!! That's awesome though. I mean, not awesome that it took so long, but awesome that you finally got him and he didn't go on as extreme of an adventure as mine XD;;; I hope you can find Daichi though, for sure he will definitely be easier to find than Yato! I still can't believe you finally got him. You achieved the impossible. X'D That's like finding the mother of all grails, because you got him for such a reasonable price too. I'm so happy for you <333

Hitorijime My Hero was great, as was Given. I'm hyped for the movie. Gonna have to look up some of these other titles you mentioned, I haven't heard of them all.
Love those Promised Neverland figures, I've been considering getting the trio myself. They look really great for prize figures!
Haha, my Sugawara went on an adventure too. Granted, not quite the adventure yours went on - but he shipped just prior to SAL being suspended, so he spent weeks in limbo before arriving back at Mandarake to be re-shipped. Lucky you managed to get Daichi - I'm still struggling to find him for a good price. (-_-)

Yaaas, degenerates unite!!!! (That gif accurately describes me whenever I encounter BL honestly LMAO)

I really hope the Given movie gets translated fast after it's released. Aki and Haru are actually the ones I care more about (I do still like Ritsuka and Mafuyu, but the secondary pair just piqued my interest more X'D), and I think the movie will be more focused on them, so I can't wait! >u<b

And yes, do, do! Actually, if you like BL undertones as well, I highly recommend A Terrified Teacher at Ghoul School and also Merman in My Tub, which are also included in my haul. The characters are so obviously all over each other that they might as well be labeled at least as shounen-ai. X'D And of course, yanno, if ya need recs I got lots of em >u>

Oh god, that's honestly super horrible D: Did you manage to get him delivered to you via other means, though? I hope Mandarake held him for you, at least. TvT;;; And last time I checked, I think TOM still has some? It was months ago, though, so I'm not sure if they'd still do. But if I ever encounter him like on AmiAmi preowned or something, I'll make sure to let you know ^^b
