Asuna - 1/8 - Sword Art Online - Kotobukiya - ReviewAsuna - 1/8 - Sword Art Online - Kotobukiya - ReviewReview

Hi MFC,
I'm back with another figure review, this time without months in between. I'm working towards a goal of reviewing all my scale figures. I currently have 24 scale figures, and this will be my 12th review. Today I'm looking at a 1/8 scale Asuna by Kotobukiya ITEM #126835
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/09/01/2508622.jpeg

This was one of my earlier scale figures and my second Asuna figure (of more to come). I picked her up fairly cheap off AmiAmi for around 7100Y, and I believe she's still a fairly cheap figure to this day.

A quick 360 in the spoiler

I really like the pose of this figure, the way she looks like she's gracefully floating really made me want this figure.

Face close up, she has a nice smile and blush on her cheeks.

I love the way her hair flows on this figure. The many strands of hair spread out looks great. The seem on the top of her head is noticeable, but not bad and isn't really obvious from normal viewing angles

Probably my biggest complaint about this figure is the paint job on the hair, maybe it's just mine but the colour seems kind of faded or washed out.

The base is another nice feature. I like how she's elevated and only touching the broken pillar with one foot. The rings are also pretty cool, although mine won't sit quite parallel to each other but it's not very noticeable.

I love it when a 1/8 scale doesn't feel like a 1/8 scale, and that's the case here. Largely due to the base and her elevation she isn't dwarfed by a 1/7 scale.

A few size comparisons:
Alongside another Asuna ITEM #549666
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/09/01/2508635.jpeg

And alongside ITEM #147115
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/09/01/2508636.jpeg

Overall I'm happy with this figure. To me, the pose and base alone are enough to justify the price I paid, although I'm not sure it would be justified too much higher. Asuna is my best girl and to any other Asuna fans out I think she's a must have for the collection.

Thanks for reading! As always feel free to let me know what you think! Until the next review!

murialita4 mese/i fa#91704620The rings actually are not supposed to be parallel, so don't worry about that.
That’s good to know thanks!
Bah-Roo4 mese/i fa#91733473oh, just the one in your review. The Aquamarine one, I think? Unless you put the Koto one next to several different Asunas and the pics didn’t load for me, which sometimes happens
Oh of course duh haha. Nope just the one. I agree koto did a better job on the face but the other ones hair looks nicer

cyclo1954 mese/i fa#91639505That's a fair concern, Asuna herself and the broken pillar thing are a single piece that can't be separated, and a few pegs connect that to the base. The two rings insert on the back of the pillar. She's surprisingly well balanced and sturdy despite how she looks.
Thanks! Which other Asuna are you referring to? There's a lot of Asuna figures :P

dtindcarea4 mese/i fa#91639083Nice review, thanks! I was just curious how she was attached to the base and whether she was stable? Poses like that can sometimes be problematic.

Bah-Roo4 mese/i fa#91639188I prefer the skin tone and hair colour on the other Asuna. Yet for all the ambition of the other's sculpt, this one by Koto is superior in it's simplicity. The face on Koto's Asuna is much better; it resembles her 2D design very well. There are many positive things to say about this rendition of the character, but I won't waffle on. I'll just thank you for the nice review and pictures! I'm not exactly a fan of SAO but I do still occasionally keep up to date with what new figures are being made for the franchise. It was interesting to revisit a relatively older figure from SAO! IIRC Koto was one of the first companies to make an Asuna? Anyway, I think they did a really good job, she's still a top contender for "best Asuna figure" imo :P

Nice review. I've had this Asuna displayed since her first release in 2013 and still love how she turned out.
