CROSSPOSTED: moronokimi.live...
Hello all! In the spirit of Evangelion's usual ridiculous merchandising, I'm here to show off my latest custom creation. Check out the "Stuff I Made" tag if you're interested in more of my original and custom work.
Now before you think I'm completely nuts, know that I was not the first to think of Evangelion merpeople.

Seeing as those existed I felt it was only right to rectify it with a merman. The only thing holding me back from making a mer-Shinji is the lack of a shirtless Shinji to work off of.

Since I used a gashopon as a base, it made things a bit easier, because Kaworu's torso and legs were already separate pieces from each other. I simply had to sculpt a slot in the fishy lower half for the torso to lock into, and presto!
Because I did that, he can actually switch back and forth between normal and merman with careful removal of the torso piece. For now, though, he's displayed with Shinji. (The Eric to his Ariel? Oh god, this is how terrible crossover fanfictions happen.)

I kept the tail relatively simple, since I was basing him off the Asuka and Rei mermaids. Since I didn't have sculpting material that could make a nice translucent effect like the prize figures have, I instead made his tail a little more intricate and added silver accents like on his Rebuild plugsuit. Naturally, the tail shape was inspired by an angelfish. It's a little hard to tell in the pictures, but the tail is actually slightly sparkly, and the fins are painted black.

The base was sculpted from scratch with a "stone look" material that I thought suited him. I tried to copy the design of the base on the Asuka and Rei mermaids.

This was a fairly small project that I worked on while I was waiting for coats of paint to dry on some of my other projects, and I'm pleased with the results. Gashopon seem very suited to this kind of thing since they can be easily disassembled.

If you can provide the figure base (this particular Kaworu gashapon is kind of a pain to find, it turns out) I'd be happy to take a commission for your own :>
I once took a Saint Seiya gashapon and put a little tail on it from an Ariel polly pocket. It looked a bit ridiculous. :D I love the color scheme you chose though. The black looks great.
I have always a thing for mermaids and this is so awesome!!! I'd totally buy it. There are not enough merguys in the world.
Haha better late than never, I don't mind comments on really old posts. I'm glad you like him! :D I think he turned out really nice for how small he is.

I think you can make Shinji merman ver. too XD
I've considered making a mer-torso for the Shinji in these pictures, but I just thought it would look so ridiculous with a button up collared shirt and a fishy lower half...
