Welcome to another 2 Player Figure Review by WAYFINDER and BEANI!

We've decided to do our reviews a little differently! The following is a direct audio transcript of an in-person conversation between us, as we review the figure before us (think podcast, except our recording equipment is too horrendous to post listenable audio).

All photos included have not been altered in any way (i.e. no saturation tweaks, contrast shifting, etc.), and have been calibrated for white balance to attempt to give the most true-to-life representation of the figure as we can.

For this second 2-Player Review, we reviewed Leviathan by Amakuni, published by Hobby Japan.

Enjoy!

INTRODUCTION

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
Hello again MFC! After a prolonged absence we are back with another two player figure review. I’m Wayfinder.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
And I’m Beani.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpgWe’re going to review Leviathan - the image of Envy - from Orchid Seed and Amakuni’s joint Seven Deadly Sins collection. This set is based on a series of illustrations by Niθ based around the Seven Cardinal Vices. Envy - which the lovable Leviathan embodies - is the capital vice that involves not only wanting to have what other people have but also wanting them not to have it. Supposedly it’s one of the worst sins because not only does it impact the person but also compels them to visit misfortune upon others.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpgThis was a very hotly anticipated line. Something to comment on is that Leviathan was the one that was probably THE MOST hotly anticipated. Asmodeus was nowhere near as popular and now there’s quite a few people trying to go back and get her for the sake of set completion, which means Asmodeus will probably be the most rare and valuable of the set.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
I pre-ordered her straight off the bat. Then Leviathan came along and it got popular. She was the figure that made the line big.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
It’s safe to assume that that’s what it was, at least on MFC. However with regards to other things this figure represents, I don’t think she particularly represents envy.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
Well, from an Anglo point of view there is one problem that jumps out at me right away. Look at the colour of her eyes. “Envy is the green-ey'd monster, which doth mock the meat it feeds on…”

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
Now that you mention it, she doesn’t have any green on her.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpgNor is she mocking any meat. Though, if you look at the various illustrations of Leviathan - not just the one the figure is based off - there is some degree of jealousy apparent in the character. Like in the special handkerchief, where she’s doing the frustrated mouth pull.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
That’s just a sexy thing. That’s got nothing to do with being jealous of something.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
I guess it is in how you invoke the scene. Lucifer looks quite prideful.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
Yes Lucifer seems to be doing the whole pride thing. I guess Sloth is… sitting down?

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
I think that’s probably as far as it goes. It’ll be interesting to see the characters in the OVA series.

SCULPTING

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
Let’s start with sculpting.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
It’s very good to look at initially.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690349.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690350.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
Let’s move from the head down. The hair has visible seam lines. I can see the join where the horns have been sunk in.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690281.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690280.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
The hair is quite good; the fringe has been put in as a separate piece. Her side tail is quite cute.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690250.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690251.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
Yes, it is very sharp. I do like this little lightning bit.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690253.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
Yes, very faithful to the illustration. But there are a lot of visible seams along some of the hair; you can see where the mould line was. If you’re looking at the figure with her facing towards you, you’ll never see them.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690292.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690291.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpgI think the worst flaw on her head is the horn to our left. It doesn’t seem to quite fit in there right. Whether that was an issue with how they sculpted it or not or just the assembly of it I am not sure but you can still see some of the bits of glue as well.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690249.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
The face’s sculpt is interesting.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690250.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
I think the face is one of her cutest points. The combination of the pointy ears the pointy horns and the pointy nose give that demonic aspect. She has also got quite a sharp chin.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690274.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690275.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
You’re right - I never noticed how the pointy nose lined up with the horns and ears to create visual alliteration. Look at her cheekbones too - very angular. But she’s got just that little bit of softness in the cheeks.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690276.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
The lips have been sculpted in, and they’ve added the fang which is nice. I like fangs; fangs are very cute.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690278.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
The ears are actually pretty detailed as well. If you look at them closely you see they’ve properly shaped the outer part of the ear.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690256.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
I don’t particularly like the choice to sculpt in that line on the top of the sleeves; when you glance at it, it looks like a seam but it’s actually a raised part.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690353.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
One of the things I like about her clothing is the knotting on the right side, the way the shirt is pulled up into that knot. Beautiful.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690355.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
It’s got a nice motion to it. It’s a very believable knot.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
You can see similar lines on the sleeves where they are clinging around her wrist. They crease up and around as they are pulled along with her hands.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690357.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690359.jpeg
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690360.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690361.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpgWhile the general sculpting is quite nice the cast off option does lead to some rather severe issues. I don’t understand why makers can’t get this right. The use of this particular type of pin means that it is near impossible to get the clothes on once you take them off.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpgWhen I received her, every possible part was in contact during shipping - that is sockets, clothes, neck joint, belt - and all of that was encased by a plastic barrier, which meant you had to dissemble the figure in order to get the plastic off the individual pieces. This meant you have to cast her off from the moment you got her.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
Yes, and all this leads to quite a significant gap on the shirt.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpgThe clothes are made of soft PVC. The pegs are in awkward positions and made of the same soft PVC material as the clothes meaning they’re bendy, difficult to get into the sockets and they come out of their sockets very easily… It’s frustrating.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690313.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690311.jpeg
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690312.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpgIt is something that I’ve seen makers do right. I’ve seen tiny makers that shouldn’t know what they’re doing do it better than this. From her normal viewing angle you can’t see the giant seam but if you want to view her from any other angle it’s going to become a problem very quickly.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
Continuing on, the belt. It’s quite nicely sculpted; I like the little garter strap that she has leading from the stocking to the belt, a little hexagram. Very potent symbol, that.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690288.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690287.jpeg
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690297.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690267.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
The stockings are quite nice.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690318.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690319.jpeg
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690316.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690317.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
The thighs are being pressed over the top by the stocking edge.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690272.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
I feel like her thighs could be a little bit bigger actually. Her calves could be smaller. The ratio isn’t quite right to my taste. There just isn’t enough to differentiate between calf and thigh.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690314.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690315.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
It’s kind of forgivable because her butt is really good.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpgFor some reason I thought she was wearing a miniskirt; she is not. She is wearing a belt with a very wide back and nothing underneath. The belt comes down approximately half a miniskirt length which leaves the entirety of her butt curve completely visible. So, how do you rate her butt?

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690295.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
It’s pretty damn good. I love the Band-Aid.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
The Band-Aid is great.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690296.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690301.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
I see some people being disappointed that she doesn’t have anything sculpted underneath the Band-Aid. Honestly, I think it’s far more unique and interesting to have a figure like this than to have one with sculpted detail down there.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpgI agree. Initially I was one of the ones who were a little bit shocked and disappointed that she didn’t have anything sculpted underneath. I’m a collector of Native figures so I’m used to some of the relevant anatomy being sculpted in. At the same time, this isn’t a figure that’s about exposure.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
Down to her boots.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690323.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690324.jpeg
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690325.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690326.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpgI like the little teeth details on there. They’re like stupid zippers. All the detail is there, the buckles have been sculpted in, the straps exist separately from the surface of the boot - they didn’t have to do that - the zips at the bottom stick out.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690269.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690270.jpeg
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690268.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
They do a similar thing on the belt. Details like that are often where they try to cut corners. It’s similar with the shirt because you can see how there is a belt underneath her shirt sleeve.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
All the belting, buckling, belt, gloves and so on - anything leather - is actually very good.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690285.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690244.jpeg
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690242.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690241.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
Let’s look at the thing she holds.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690346.jpeg
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690348.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690347.jpeg
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690302.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690305.jpeg
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690307.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690303.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
The sculpting detail with the stitching is nice.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690306.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
It’s nice that she can hold it. Good counterbalance.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
Shall we take her clothes off?

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
Ya!

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpgWhen I first took Leviathan apart the only join that gave me any kind of trouble was the neck. It’s quite stiff and even though I’ve only taken her apart twice there is still paint transfer happening on the neck socket from the hair. The neck joint is interesting because rather than being just a straight socket joint it has the lower part of the neck and head in a spade configuration.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690344.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690345.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpgThe arms come off very easily. The shirt is a bit more intensive though quite simple, it splits along the side seams and then is slid upwards over the bust. It’s a very tight fit over her bust and just having cast off once I can see this cracking starting to happen on the shirt. It’s not something you will be constantly changing the clothing on. The socket design on the arms is quite good here; each of the sockets are uniquely pinned. With her arms bare, she’s wearing the same gloves and the same armbands she was before. Putting her back together from cast off is very straightforward.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690294.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
Okay, she's cast off.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690234.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690235.jpeg
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690236.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690239.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
The thing that jumps out at me is the collarbones. Once the shirt is off the collarbones become very prominent. I think they’re very nicely sculpted.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690240.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
I don’t know; I’m too busy paying attention to the boobs. They are very prominent.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690248.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
The nipples are nice.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
There seems to be a lot more prominence in that area as well. They are actually sculpted on instead of being a little bit of gradient.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
Leviathan’s nipples are quite small but defined nubs. There’s a pinprick on the inside of each nipple - nice bit of detail there.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690247.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
How would you rate the shape of her breasts?

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
It’s a nice shape, although I think they’re a little bit too rounded to me. On the edge of being a little bit too fake.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
They’re very perky, but not beyond the bounds of realism. The breasts are actually hanging, too. They’re not suspended in a strange balloon like configuration.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
The belly is quite nice. Her hips are not terribly detailed. With the clothes off obviously her crotch and butt receive a lot more attention.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690261.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690262.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
With the belt and shirt off you can see that the musculature of her back is really quite detailed.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690263.jpeg
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690264.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
The fingers are also decently sculpted. They’re not chunky or anything.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690243.jpeg
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690358.jpeg

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpgSculpt really does bring a lot to this. It’s a very detailed sculpt, it’s a very cute sculpt, it’s a reasonably realistic sculpt. There are a lot of flourishes that you wouldn’t otherwise see in the body, the hair and the demonic details. The ears didn’t have to be as detailed as they were. The details on the nipples are nice too. I’m not going to penalise if for not having a sculpted vulva.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpgI’m not going to penalise for that either. I’ll give her 8.5. The body is excellent, the face is excellent, and the clothing is excellent. But the cast off is horrendous. I do not forgive gaps. I don’t. Considering that my Aoshima figure that I paid 25 bucks for has a near perfect cast-off that you can actually click back in because it doesn’t use stupid little pegs. That was all they had to do - use better pegs. It wouldn’t kill them. The hair is also not good. Overall the shape is good the finer details are not. The connections in the hair strands for instance let it down.
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690290.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690282.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
8.5 because there are a lot of things very right but also a lot of things that disappoint me.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpgThis might surprise you, but I also concur with that score. I’m going to give it 8.5 out of 10. It’s very good bordering on excellent, which is why it gets 8.5. It sounds like you start at the higher end and bring it down, for me it only got up to 8.5 to begin with.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
If the cast off worked, it would be a 9.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
Those pegs are fucking annoying.

PAINTING

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
Her eyes are stamped. They’re nice - no complaints there.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690252.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
They are not very detailed though - a pretty basic stamp.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
The lips have been separately painted, and her fang has been painted white.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690279.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
I like the slight blush on the cheeks. It brings out the very slight feminine softness in her otherwise angular face.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690277.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
The hair is flat colour.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690351.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
The paint in general is very flat. Not many gradients. It’s nice to see some shading on the body. She seems to be a lot more detailed on that front naked than anywhere else.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpgIt looks like she’s been given an undercoat and then another milky white overcoat. The airbrushing on her body when viewed from a distance gives the impression of light falling across the details of the body. Actually, look at the hair - in some places you can see through to the grey primer below.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690257.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
They’ve used semi-sparkle on the leather surfaces to give a slight textured shininess, which works.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690320.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
One touch which I enjoyed was the very light gloss on the nails, but you won’t notice that unless you put it under lights like we do.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690246.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690245.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
It’s peculiar to put that there. It’s quite difficult to see. I’m surprised they went to that trouble to do it.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
The Band-Aid is printed and stuck on.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690301.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
On the stockings there is some paint going outside the lines.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690273.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
The stripes are a bit messy, especially on the arm. The connection between the grey on her shirt and the white of the shirt has a similar issue. That’s kind of expected except from the best of the makers though.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690363.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
The sleeve of the shirt has a nicely-placed pentagram design, especially considering the ridge. The shirt also has the "ENVY" design, which really adds visual spice to her clothed bust.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690352.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690354.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
There is a rather nasty flaw on the garter strap where silver has bled down.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690286.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
This paintjob is not winning any awards. It’s not overly bad, but…

…when you look at the finer details it’s not that good. Overall it looks great.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpgThey’ve reproduced the illustration and visual style. The use of the colour is competent. There isn’t a lot of imagination with paint types; they’ve used the glossy sparkly on the belt but that’s as adventurous as they get. The gloss on the nails really impressed me.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
The hair lets it down.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
I’m really not impressed that I can see the white primer underneath. They seem to have airbrushed quite lightly on the whole thing. Really, it’s the sculpt doing all the work. The paint is only along for the ride.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
Let’s look at the thing she holds.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
Look, there’s paint transfer already.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690308.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
That’s off the belt! Already!

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
It’s bad that that came off that quick. It wasn’t even being displayed like this; we only put it there for the review.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
The paint job is really mediocre on this thing, especially on the back. The fact that there’s paint transfer and that I can see this messy brushwork is sloppy.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690304.jpeg

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpgMe first. What lets me down here is the hair - the fact that I can see down to primer shows me that this was done a bit hastily. The skin was very good, the nipples were shaded very well. The paint on the boots and clothing was also very good. The paint on the fabric was quite nice with the same two layer technique in use on the T-shirt. The stockings and arm stockings are a little bit sloppy. That visible brushwork on the back of the… thing really bothers me. The sculpt is doing all the work and the paint is just along for the ride. There are some standout pieces, like those glossy nails and fine detail work on the face. Overall I am going to give this paint job 6.5.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpgStrangely, I’ll agree. I don’t want to go as low as a six but I don’t think it really deserves a seven either. The body is great, but mid-thigh down the stockings are just not that good. Maybe this is just a bad one; maybe we got unlucky and this just has mediocre stockings.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
Mediocre hair, mediocre stockings, great body.

Pose

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpgWe’ve been very harsh on the figure up till now, so pose is somewhere where we can start to gush a bit. I’ll make no secret of it - I really like this pose. I love the fact that she’s leaning forward with her head tilted, her hair kind of flipping, her knees inward turned and most of all - especially in the cast off pose - I love what her hands are doing.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690327.jpeg
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690322.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690321.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpgIt was quite a good addition on their part and quite a surprise. I remember when we first saw the pictures of Leviathan we didn’t actually notice this pose for a while. I was the one that pointed it out to you, and by that time she was already pre-ordered; it was just the icing on the cake at that point. It is a very impressive alternate arm combination.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
She is reaching behind with her fingers out spread to touch both of her buttocks and her fingers arranged in such a way that it is clear that she is about to grip and spread.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpgIt’s a very good way of doing it. I mean, it seems more a Lust pose to me. But I guess it’s because Leviathan is my type that I see her as the more lustful one - she generates my lust towards her anyway. Smaller breasts; thinner figure; good pose… a very good pose. It’s very difficult to have such a different pose just from changing arms. Would you be able to use these arms if she was clothed? I think you can alternate the arms regardless. It seems the pose is also incredibly customisable as well, which is points in its favour.
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
Let me just experimentally put her belt back on. Let’s see how they interact with that.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690230.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690232.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
Now it looks like she is lifting the belt up! That is actually a very nice combination from the front.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
That is good. You could have shirt and a belt, belt and no shirt, nude with arm stockings… I’m actually really impressed.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
The pose in and of itself is very good, and the flexibility of being able to interchange parts is a very good addition. She actually looks very good this way. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone else with her like this.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
I think I’m leaving it like that. The belts on the arms and gloves and the studs on the belts and the belts on the boots give the whole thing a nice visual symmetry.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpgAnd in the back, the fact that this one is hovering makes a lot more sense, because this hand is now almost exactly touching the belt as if to pull it up, whereas the right hand is further up. They may have designed the pose of the hands so that the right one is designed to suit more when the belts not there and she looks as though she is about to spread. The left one is more designed to have the belt on because it looks like she is lifting it.
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690233.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
I really am impressed. I really like this pose. It’s sexy, it’s cute but a little bit fierce, it’s sassy, it’s cheeky.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
I’m a little less disappointed now. I was getting quite disappointed with all the negative things we had to say. But now knowing that you can change things up like this and display in so many different ways, it’s great.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
Each gives you a slightly different angle on the sexy. The T-shirt without belt is cute. The belt without T-shirt is lewder.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690371.jpeg
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690372.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690374.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
We’ve already touched on most of the pose’s technical aspects in sculpt, so this section is mostly about the effect of the pose. Do you want to go first?

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpgI’m going to rate this pose quite highly. The closest thing that I’m scoring it against is Cat and Chair; I gave Cat and Chair a 10 because it was everything that I wanted in the pose and also that you wanted in the pose. Those interchangeable parts and the fact the pose changes its nature depending on the interchangeable parts is just… So good. There are obviously more straightforward reasons that I like this pose too. I’m giving it 9.5/10. But- aaah, I want to give it a 10.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpgWell, I want to give it 11. It sounds like neither one of us can get what we want. 10 is the highest I can go. The interchangeable parts work so well, which is a fact I’m currently blown away by. It’s very rare to have such a customisable pose in a prepainted scale figure. That is something you expect from the lower end of things. People might not like that we are giving such non-dynamic poses 10’s, but there’s a lot of subtlety in this that is often lost in more dynamic poses.
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
Eroticism is as much about what you are not doing as what you’re doing.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
Most figures don’t really have that. I feel like Leviathan really shines.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
You’ve convinced me. I’m putting it up to a 10.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
I wonder if you could have one arm with the stocking on, one with not the stocking on.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
Let’s try.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
Asymmetry~! Yeah! Now it looks like she is flicking her hair up!

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
Flicking her hair, lifting her belt…

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
That’s ridiculously good! That’s even better than the last combination, and the last combination made us want to give 11’s. I think we both need to calm down, get a glass of water.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
I think we need more than a glass of water. This brings us neatly onto the next category, enjoyment.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
I thought enjoyment was the last one.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
Yeah, let’s do it last. We need to give ourselves time to calm down, or we’ll both give it 15.

BASE

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
So, umm…

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
The brick.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
It’s a hell of a base. The base is a large pedestal in two pieces. One is the flat plastic disc upon which Leviathan stands.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690330.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpgThere are three pins, one keyed to 1 foot and two keyed to the other. There is no danger that you will put her around the wrong way or display her incorrectly. The disc is made of ABS and coloured with a blue marbled effect. It is relatively small compared to what it could be.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690343.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690342.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
The other part of the base is a big. Fucking. Blue. Pedestal. It’s extremely heavy at 475g – nearly half a kilo on its own!

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690335.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690336.jpeg
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690333.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690334.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
A killer for shipping.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
You can configure the disc to be facing one of two directions on the pedestal. In one direction Leviathan is facing forward with the caption “Envy” on a large elaborate demonic head.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690332.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690339.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
If you turn around the other way there is a larger elaborate heart motif which contains in small flowing script the name “Leviathan”.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690331.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690338.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
The inside of the pedestal is hollow, not to store things in but more to not have to use so much ABS and cut down weight a bit.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
It already weighs enough. It already weighs as much as the figure would on its own.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpgI’m personally not a fan of the huge pedestals to begin with, they take up far too much room in my cabinets and I’m not going to use them. But we have to take these on their own merits, so let’s first assess the base as the plastic disc. I like it.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
I tend to like simpler bases that are a decent size and have a bit different about them. The blue matches the purple just fine.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
The marbling also looks kind of like foamy waves which matches Leviathan water aspect.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpgI don’t think they did that on purpose, somehow. It’s a plastic disc but the fact that you can then, if you want to, put this plastic disc into a giant fuck off pedestal is again showing how customisable the figure is. I find that the introduction of the text is tacky. The fact that it’s just printed on makes it that way.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690337.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
If they had actually etched it in instead of printed it on as an afterthought, it would be better.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
It brings down the overall impression of the base, because when you look at the rest of it it’s actually very elaborately sculpted.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
I think they really let themselves down by doing that. I find it hard to believe that they couldn’t bother etching the names in with all the other detail there. Keep the carved look. That’s my main concern.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690341.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpgI really like the base concept otherwise. It’s also nice because when you get all the girls together you can display say two at the back using their pedestals as natural risers, which would look really good - while the simpler bases on the lower girls would still match because they still look like marble.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690364.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690365.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpgI’m giving this base a 8/10. As much as I praised the base for being flexible, thematic, looking like it’s carved out of stone, it’s still shiny ABS. I feel an 8/10 is as high as you can go with shiny ABS. If they had done more like added some extra paint to make it flinty, I would have given it more.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
I think you may have brought me down, strangely enough. But I’ll still give it more than you: 8.5. The shininess didn’t really bother me until you mention it, now that you do it doesn’t look anything like marble and that is rather unfortunate. The tackiness of the names loses points. It’s also very heavy, as people who live outside Japan that really hurts. You felt that with the EMS shipping.

PACKAGING

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
I like to see boxes that are strong. It’s made of nice cardboard, not overly thick but it’s still corrugated. I like the pentagram die cut. You can see in a circle around the pentagram the names of the Sins have been… Hot waxed on.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690367.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
The original illustration is on the top along with the vital statistics and the lines logo.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690369.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
The window on the front is nice and big you can see the entire figure, it’s not restricting you looking just at the face.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690368.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpgAmakuni’s put their name on it quite a bit. They’ve put their K as purple, too. I’m not sure if they usually do that all the time or if they’ve done it because Leviathan is purple. It’s a pretty simple box, it has everything it needs and can be easily customised for the rest of the set. I will be interested to see if the Amakuni boxes look like this and the Orchid Seed ones use a different design. It’s also nice that you have examples of the cast off on the back, which they usually hide away. There are some bare buttocks back there.
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690366.jpeg
http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
I like the way they’ve done the design of the back. It’s nicely laid out. I also like the stony texture they’ve used as a background across the entire box.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
It thematically suits, it’s got the original illustration, it’s sturdy enough, and Amakuni used good tape that didn’t leave any residue.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
On the bottom of the box we have the usual vital statistics as well is a blurb about seven sins and the seven sins website. The blister was pretty good; there weren’t any annoying wire ties.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690370.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
I’ll go 8. Die cut was nice, but not overly complex.

I’m going to give this 8.5.

Enjoyment

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
Now that we have cooled down a bit, let’s do enjoyment. I think it’s probably fair that you lead on enjoyment now - she is my figure so I’m biased.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
She is very nice to look at no matter how she is displayed. When you’re viewing her, you just forgive all of the flaws that we pointed out before. They don’t bother you.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690229.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
Also the way you chose to display her in the cabinet is very amusing. It really does add to the enjoyment, but I’m not sure if you can count that because it’s not Leviathan doing that.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpgI’ve displayed Leviathan facing front on without her belt or the shirt next to Phat’s Caster who has a reflective tambourine held up to her side. I didn’t realise this until I stepped back and looked, but Caster’s tambourine acts as a perfect mirror to reflect behind Leviathan.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690227.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2013/04/25/690223.jpeg
http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpgAll the way to the Band-Aid. If anyone has mirrors, she is a good figure to use them with. For enjoyment, I give her 9.5. I can’t give a 10 because she’s not mine. I think that final part of the enjoyment comes from owning her, so I’m not going to give a 10. She is playful, and she just has something about her that’s missing a lot of the time, I feel.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
Spirit and character. See, now you’ve bid me up as well. I was going to give her a nine, but what you said about the character and the playful and so on… she has the alchemy of factors here that brings out a lot more than any others.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
A lot of figures are fun to collect but they’re not fun as a sculpture. To look at her and see the cheekiness is great.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
10 to me would be look at every chance I get and spend long stretches of time admiring. So, Leviathan is a 9.5. She’s really good.

Conclusion

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
I really like this figure. Would we recommend that she gets bought?

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpgOf course. She’s just come out so if you want to buy Leviathan now is the time before any of the other Sins get shown since the more that get shown, the more people there will be who would want to complete the set. That means the earlier ones will continuously get rarer.

http://imgh.us/way_av.jpg
I’m really looking forward to seeing how more of the Sins turn out.

http://imgh.us/bea_av.jpg
Good luck fitting them all on a shelf in three years when they finally all get released.

Nice review! Beautiful figure, makes me want to hunt for it now.

Mine came with the shirt not closed as well, but I don't really see that as a flaw, as you need to take the shirt off anyways to get the plastic out. Getting the shirt back together WAS a pain though.

Frankly, she's already one of my favorite figures, and I have quite a few. She overlooks all from the top of my shelf (due to the large base) beside the likes of Goddess Madoka, Dizzy, and POP Whitebeard.

Yikes. If the one we reviewed showed up like that I probably would have lowered the sculpt score further :x

This kinda stuff is why I often avoid castoff figures sadly.

Elixir7 anno/i fa#1488224It does not need to be cast-off in order for the plastic to be removed. The problem this figure has is that it isn't even assembled - it comes partially assembled and the shirt isn't even closed to begin with.
Beani is correct; when I received her the shirt & belt were pinned closed and the arms were firmly attached. The plastic had been inserted within the sockets/over the neck such that it was necessary to remove the arms and shirt (and therefore also the head) in order to get it off.

It sounds like there were inconsistencies in assembly and QC at the factory site. Such things aren't uncommon with smaller makers.

I'm sure this ones shirt was closed when Wayfinder got it so I guess there are some inconsistencies in assembly. With the shirt closed we were unable to see a way not to unpeg it to get the plastic off.

Mary7 anno/i fa#1487368Oh yay, I was waiting for someone to do a review for Leviathan, and you guys did great!
I own two Leviathans, when I got the first one, I was so impressed I hurried up and bought another since she was going for a lot. I couldn't find any major flaws on first one painting-wise. But the second one had a much worse paint qualities. On one of her breasts, she has a gray speck right next to her nipple. It kind of ruins it. And, there was a small clump of paint under one of her eyes, also very distracting.
She really is a very nice figure. All that you had to say I can agree with, she has a lot of posing options as well as a versatile pose. The sculpt has personality and movement instead of looking static and boring.
I liked that she included the pedestal but still made her base removable from the pedestal. I think the pedestal would've looked a lot nicer if they had just left out the text.

Thanks! We almost bought a second one after she arrived too so I find it amusing you did the same! The inconsistent QC is a little worrying but I guess that is to be expected with a smaller maker like this one. I love that you pretty much agree with what we said and I very very much believe the text should have not been on the base as well.

AnnieAzura7 anno/i fa#1487377oh right! there's a character limit to these things. ah well me and my friend were thinking of doing this chat style anyways since we're more used to texting and facebook chatting instead of talking. well it'll probably be another month before our joint review goes up. (cuz i'm still behind on my own review schedule orz)
Typing would certainly save all the transcription time so it may be a good move ha.. we tend to really enjoy just sitting and the table and chattering wildly about figures which I feel does give a bit of a different feel to typing (though it is so heavily edited we almost may as well have been typing!) Good luck with your review plans! I hope they include mroe adorably posed shots like the 1/12 swing set you did!

aeonblue7 anno/i fa#1487743This is quite a nice surprise for me because I thought you guys weren't going to do another 2P review again! Aside from the elaborate review, the style makes it so entertaining to read even if I don't have any interest in this figure. Though now I'm persuaded that she's quite the gem :)
We are both quite hyped about Leviathan so it seemed a good time to try again but gahhhh it still takes foreverrrrrr. Not sure if it worth doing another but we will likely try again. Thanks for reading~~

kaminator7 anno/i fa#1487766Nice review! I remember deciding to order her or not, but then decided not to, because the money situation wasn't very stable at that time, now I regret it ;(
Thanks! If you regret it I definitely suggest trying to chase her down earlier rather than later. I feel she won't get any easier or cheaper over time :(

zzxantrax077 anno/i fa#1487922Very detailed review. I like the box (though not the base).
Thanks! I can definitely see how the base would not be everyone's cup of tea :)
