yikes. this is pretty disheartening seeing as im a Canadian who already has to deal with DHL being the only shipping option + ridiculous import fees (almost $50 on a figure above $200). sigh. at least i only have one real figure left for this year, and im definitely cutting down on POs overall. sad, but it'd be even sadder to let all that money go just on shipping

Yeah, I saw this on AmiAmi this morning. An average increase of 17% for Canada and the U.S., price gouging is what that is. I suggested to AmiAmi that they should look into providing more choices for shipping companies a few months ago. They did not heed my advice, so since September, all my pre-orders haver been made at other shops that give me more choice. AA has already lost 200K JPY worth of business from me for 2022.
Only other option besides DHL, EMS and Surface atm is FedEx afaik and it's generally more expensive than DHL.
Is there another?

Yes, however AmiAmi doesn’t calculate the exact shipping costs until after the order is processed. If shipping rates are higher than anticipated, customers can always cancel their order.
I'm not talking about amiami. I mean DHL. Amiami has no part in the price increase.

I meant because DHL is the only parcel service shipping from Japan in some countries. Not the retailers. Could be considered price gouging.

No, because figures are a non-essential luxury item. Shipping rates increasing is the result of many worldwide events, retailers are not to blame.

EMS is understandable since packages are shipped along with passenger flights and there aren't as many so they needed a way to reduce number of packages shipped. DHL has their own planes however, so there should be no reason for a price increase.

Couldn't this be considered taking advantage of a monopoly in some countries and therefor illegal?

It's not bad enough that SAL hasn't returned nor EMS has bumped up their fees. Now DHL is doing the same. Good grief.

As long as you cancel before getting a payment invoice you should be ok, as stated in their help section:

If you are still worried it might be best to contact them and ask nicely.
i ended up cancelling + contacting them nicely about the two preorders i have left this year. i explained the situation and i'm hoping they understand lel
