Sealed - For Freshness Club

Hello and welcome.

I received a request the other day for some information on a figure from a member, apparently this member asked the same information of a few other members.

After 4 failed attempts (with 4 individual members) at receiving any useful information, the member proceeded to mass email the 4 members (myself being one of them) with a quote from each of the 4 members individual responses.

While I found the response "THANKS FOR NOTHING" (in caps, just as we received it) to be kinda rude considering I took the time and effort to explain why I was unable to provide the information, I decided make the best of a rude situation.

I realized that one of the responses ("...I don't typically open my figures...") was similar to my own ("...I've never even opened the box for her...") and that there are probably others out there who think like I do. Those who might have any number of figures they never plan on opening or those who buy duplicates so they can keep one sealed for what ever the reason.

This is a place for those people, those of us who buy figures and for whatever reason (collect-ability/rare, never got around to opening, don't want to open, etc.)

I will do my best to spruce this place up a bit when I get the chance but I felt it was time to put the word out that not everyone opens their figures!

Non-openers rejoice!

iheartcurryI think I'm getting really into not opening any of my figures. I haven't been opening any at all that I have received in fact. I think I'm saving them all for a day of stress and just break them all free out of their plastic prison. Gosh I really hope that none of them have broken or missing parts. That does scare me since most of them have been in their boxes for months now and I'm pretty sure amiami would not give me any replacement parts or anything. D:

We buy these things to enjoy them so open away, for most it eventually becomes an overwhelming hobby where figures continuously arrive but the time to open them seems to disappear.

I use to not open them. But last month I started to inspect them at the very least. I've had problems with several figures recently with broken + missing parts so I suppose it is wise to at least inspect them. But I still keep them unopened in the box.

I'm just wondering, do you guys open it to check to see if it's all in one piece/ no defects? Or do you just get it and not check? I'm contemplating on opening mine just to make sure that they don't have anything broken off. But I don't want to open them. They are so nicely situated in the boxes.

negativezeroaesculapiusDidn't realize this club existed but glad to know there are others like me that don't open their figures. 90%+ of my figures are un-opened with absolutely NONE of my nendoroids out of their boxes.

Hey a new comment! Sweet! yeah man, we've got problems, We got all this beautiful PVC, boxed up away from the world , what is wrong with us? But have you at least built most of your gundam? if those are on display then I can understand perfectly.

Gundams are exceptions since I have to build those. So yea those are out of box, most of them. Some of them I assemble then put back in boxes....

@ddd1234
yea I'm afraid of figure damage too, though I don't open generally because I don't want them to lose pristine(ness) or depreciate...

man I really wish I'd get notices when people post here.

but in addition to Shinobi2u's comment and in reply to Akwa...

My figures get kept upopened mainly because I don't have time to do anything with them. I don't have much room to display but I know I want certain figures, so rather then let them pass me by and regret not buying them I buy them anyway. And then as I buy more and more I don't have much tim eto do the photo shoots I used to do, so why open the figure if I can't display it and I'm not gonna take pictures is basically my reasoning. And also if the day arrives that I need to sell some , I'd rather be able to say that its brand new than say it's open. once it say it's open most people assume it's been used.

Hope that helps!

and you may think it wierd but I kinda have the same problems with video games. With sooo many good new games coming out along with working 40 hrs a week and having a girlfriend, it ends up leading to less time for myself sometimes.

Akwa,

This is just my opinion, but the reason why I don't open my boxes is because I sort of have this collector mentality where I want to preserve the mintiness (sp?) of my collection. If I had a really sweet display for them, I would want to unleash the awesomeness, but I'd still want a bunch of them mint in their boxes. At this point, I'm gonna have to buy doubles of the ones that I'd like to keep sealed in their boxes.

I think the important thing is just to respect a person's take on their hobby whether it be keeping them sealed, buying multiples of something a la Konata way to have on display, to be availabe to borrow or to keep in mint packaging. Ultimately, this is hobby is for the individual person to enjoy, so we enjoy it in what possible way we can XD
