If looking strictly at a quality vs. quantity consideration... then buying the best figure for your favorite character is the priority. I really really want the figure with both her swords. That's why I'm so interested in the 1/3 scale even if I eventually have to cop out due to my initial concerns.
I hope the anime does well so other figure companies make scales too. I only collect 1/7 scale figures to maintain uniformity and so I don't get lead astray on different figure versions of characters. 1/6 and 1/4 scales are not outside my scope though. We'll see about 1/3... I really like 2B and she will be my first big statue. I almost pre-ordered a big statue before but I cancelled it because it was too big. I just can't fathom if it has 2 big boxes. I like keeping figure boxes so it's a shame if I have to throw it away due to space concerns.
A wise choice, u had a good eye on the 1/3 scale 2B statue. Don’t forget there won’t be too many of this 1/3 scale statue plus no rerun like figures

If you haven't collected large resin statues before (such as multi-character 1/6 scale dioramas, 1/4 scale, 1/3 scale, etc.), the size, price, and quality are really in a completely different class compared to PVC scale figures. They're definitely not for everyone because of the amount of money and space commitment that's required. I would only recommend getting an ultra high-end statue like this if it's for one of your favorite characters of all time. The 1/3 scale will be way larger than this 1/4 scale btw, I'm talking like almost double in height. Going with the Aniplex for an anime version of 2B is already a great choice, much more economical and space-saving. Flare's 2B is another great option.

Honestly Prime 1's 2B is so gorgeous compared to any PVC figure I own that I don't even think of getting any PVC figures of 2B anymore (which is very healthy for my wallet and my collecting addiction).
Therefore I'd be more than happy if Prime 1 had delivered the Rei statue (or statues of other Anime characters I love) that makes me feel of finally not wanting any other PVC figures of that character anymore. Sadly with Rei it didn't work out was well as it did with 2B.
And bases...well they are hardly more than a disturbing distraction for me, almost as unnecessary as the boxes. But I know, I'm quite alone with this opinion and I learned my lesson the hard ways as I wanted to sell figures without the original boxes. XD Ha, the Prime 1 Rei was exactly the statue I had in mind when I wrote about the quality of Anime PVC figures or statues. If you made other experiences with other characters then I must confess these characters are outside my bubble.
I have similar thoughts. I noticed Prime 1 because they started selling an Asuna scale figure that cost a whopping $800+, granted it had a big and elaborate base. However, in terms of Asuna figure, Alter definitely blows it out of the water. ITEM #1356493 is the Prime 1 and ITEM #603639 is the Alter.
But still, like one of our other comrade mentioned below, big statues like this are in a whole different ball park. I still think that the big base Asuna is not a good value just like how you think Prime 1's Rei Ayanami is not good value (personally haven't seen it yet) If it helps, my first evangelion figure would be this ITEM #1286316 which is actually a higer end PVC. At least it has Alter's guarantee.

XDYeah, the Rei and Asuka, although a massive improvement over Prime 1's original prototypes of them which were utterly terrible, just don't bring enough to the table to justify their size and price. Another example that came to mind about how incredible Prime 1 anime/manga statues can be are their Berserk statues. I don't collect Berserk but they're all absolutely amazing and would not be able to be matched by corresponding PVC scale figures at all. But again, the more realistic the art style is, the more it will shine with a large resin format compared to a smaller PVC format. As a video game character that has a more realistic art style than your typical anime look, 2B will be far better as a large resin statue than she will ever be as a PVC figure. Although I have almost every NieR figure/statue that exists, I don't think I'll actually bother displaying any 2B/9S/A2 figures outside of my Prime 1 pieces at this point since the quality difference is just massive. I generally don't like massive bases because they can distract from the actual character but I do appreciate a good base that accentuates the character. I think the 1/3 scale 2B's base isn't too big relative to 2B herself so I quite like it.

Klon Solo Rei basta!
(...)For example, their Persona 5 Joker and Evangelion Rei and Asuka statues don't feel that much more detailed than a PVC figure due to the cleaner style of their animation, which is why I didn't consider getting any of them, especially with all of the great PVC figure alternatives those characters have. What Prime 1 does always have going for them though is size/presence and composition. Their anime statues all have incredible bases and are often made to be awesome dioramas. Only eStream figures put a similar emphasis on composition but they still don't come close to Prime 1. If you don't care for the large scale and awesome composition and simply want a high quality depiction of a character, PVC figures are definitely the way to go. Prime 1 statues are meant to be statement pieces and should really be reserved for people's absolute favorite characters.

Why bother spending money on Alter, GSC, etc. when you can buy a prize figure. I mean, it's "good enough," right? Figure collecting by itself is a waste of money. That's why you should only spend disposable income. Judging other people's spending is just hypocrisy. That's even considering I love Alter and I don't even own a single Prime 1. They literally look the same to me. Both faces look beautiful. I don't see the difference.
Yea, it's good for you if you don't see any difference in the faces between the 1/4 and 1/3 scale statues. I can't help it, I see one. What can I do?
About PVC figures: In fact, there are some rare cases indeed in which I would say a prize figure does look more charming than a premium figure. But generally speaking premium figures are significantly better in terms of sculpt details, the way the PVC is processed and the use of colors and shadings.
It's a much bigger difference than I see between premium PVC figures and Anime statues by for examples Prime 1. The plus in details are limited in a few additional hairstrains on the statues itself and more opulent bases.
I've already wasted money I had and didn't had in every possible way: in PVC premium and prize figures, Prime 1 statues and Volks Dolls as well as a lot of other things not related to figures.
So I've made enough experiences to form myself an opinion on that matter but I think I made it clear it's only my opinion. I didn't judge anyone for the way spending his or her money nor is it my place to criticize the consuming behavior of others.

I will still keep my eye out on the 1/3 scale just to see what the final product will look like.If you haven't collected large resin statues before (such as multi-character 1/6 scale dioramas, 1/4 scale, 1/3 scale, etc.), the size, price, and quality are really in a completely different class compared to PVC scale figures. Going with the Aniplex for an anime version of 2B is already a great choice, much more economical and space-saving. Flare's 2B is another great option. I was talking with other collectors and it seems like this kind of statue is not for me. It's going to take up a lot of space... I will just settle for the one produced by Aniplex.
I somewhat agree with this but also somewhat disagree. Prime 1 anime statues are sometimes far more detailed than their PVC counterparts. Just looking at their Alita/Gally statues shows how detailed/realistic an anime figure can get. However, I think this is also dependent on the anime style of the source material. For example, their Persona 5 Joker and Evangelion Rei and Asuka statues don't feel that much more detailed than a PVC figure due to the cleaner style of their animation, which is why I didn't consider getting any of them, especially with all of the great PVC figure alternatives those characters have. Prime 1 statues are meant to be statement pieces and should really be reserved for people's absolute favorite characters. At least this realistic looking 2B is a character worth of buying a Prime 1 statue from. A Prime 1 1/4 or even 1/3 scale of a Manga/Anime figure is a waste of money in my opinion. For their much more simple style PVC figures by Alter, GSC or maybe even a 1/4 from Freeing is good enough.
